big changes

Dear matthew,

51 seats is not enough! Donate today I have lived my life with the abiding belief that we, as citizens and as a government, have a moral responsibility to each other.

But the lies and cynicism of the Bush years have torn apart that compact, and left us with a government indifferent to the 37 million people in poverty, our crumbling public schools, and a war without end.

America has an epic cleanup job ahead of it that is best tackled by a Democratic president. But the difficult trench work of passing new laws begins in Congress, and our country can't afford a progressive agenda continuing to be bogged down by obstructionist Republican senators wedded to the radical ideology of George W. Bush.

The DSCC began its work to expand our Democratic majority in battleground states months ago, but now they're entering a critical time. March 31 marks the first of three vital quarterly fundraising deadlines the DSCC will face this year, and they've got to outpace the GOP. Elections aren't until November, but they can be won or lost depending on what you do right now. Please give today.

Click here to make a donation of $50, $75 or more to help expand the Democratic Senate majority in 2008. The March 31 deadline is so important that if you give today, your contribution will be matched by a group of Democratic Senators, effectively tripling your contribution.

The damage that George Bush and the Republicans have done to this country is so immense, that nothing short of sweeping reforms will get America back on the right track again.

The next administration will have to find a way to provide coverage for 47 million Americans without health insurance, drastically reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use to stop global warming, and write a more equitable tax code to restore fairness and opportunity to our economy.

These reforms would constitute the biggest domestic changes America has attempted since Medicare and Medicaid were created in the 1960s.

And they simply will not happen without expanding the Democrats' 51 seat Senate majority.

2008 is our chance because Democrats are competitive everywhere. In years past, no one imagined that we could pick up Republican Senate seats in places like Mississippi and Kentucky, but this year, on the backs of record Democratic turnout, we can win.

We're going to be fighting Republicans in blue states, red states and everywhere in between, and the DSCC needs your help to expand our opportunities.

The task in front of us is to help the DSCC build a fundraising advantage now, so that we can give Democratic candidates across the country the support they need in the frantic months ahead. Give today, and your contribution will be matched by a group of Democratic Senators, effectively tripling your contribution.

This time can be different. This time we can truly advance the cause of economic justice, and help this country live up to its highest ideals.

Please join me in supporting the DSCC today.

Sincerely,

Sen. John Edwards
