"subject: important"

I think everyone knows how important the races we face on March 4 are. But there's one thing you need to know: I am relying on you to win.
You are my best supporters, and over the past weeks you have made this campaign your own. Now with just a few days to go before the critical March 4 contests, I have to ask you to act one more time -- because you can make a difference on Tuesday.
We are making our final push in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont and we need you to reach deep and make a contribution to my campaign today.
Just imagine if 30,000 online supporters like you each make a contribution to our campaign in the next 48 hours. That will send a message that voters in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont will hear loud and clear.
Contribute now to win big on March 4.
I'm campaigning nonstop between now and Tuesday. You and I know what is at stake -- our ability to stand up and fight for the values we believe in.
We've defied expectations before. We've won when they counted us out. Together we can win big on March 4 and keep on winning until we are in the White House.
But it all comes down to what we do today. If 30,000 of you make your voice heard with a contribution of any size in the next 48 hours, you will be speaking loud and clear with one voice -- a voice that no one will be able to ignore.
Contribute now to win in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
You have sacrificed and spoken out, given your time and money so that we can win. But I have never needed you like I do today, and I hope that you will be there for me.
Thank you so much for everything that you do.
Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton
huge crowds in texas
We are on the air in Texas with our new television ad "Stand Up." Crowds are huge. Momentum. Momentum.
As someone I have counted on time and again to make a difference for our campaign I am asking you to make a difference again and help us raise $200,000 by tonight at midnight so we can blanket the state with radio advertising and get out the vote calls.
Can I count on you again for a contribution of $25 or more?
Our message is resonating and what we need today is the ability to expand our reach and contact as many voters as possible in these final days before the primary.
Help us finish strong here in Texas.
With deep gratitude,

urgent
That's right, over 10,000 comments have been left on our campaign blog since 1 AM this morning. An incredible total. The response is smashing every record we have had on our blog. Voters are clearly hungry for a healthy discussion of ideas.
Today, I need you to help me smash our March 4 fundraising goal of $1.5 million. We are at $948,646 raised. Please make an immediate contribution of $25 or more and help us reach our goal days ahead of schedule. If everyone that co-signed the letter made a small contribution today we would reach our goal by midnight.
Please make an immediate contribution of $25 or more today. Lets show the pundits and voters nationwide that there is plenty of fight left in this campaign.
From the campaign trail and with the deepest gratitude,

letter to mccain
Will you co-sign my letter to John McCain asking him to consider a Lincoln-Douglas debate before the March 4 primary?
Now that the race for the Republican nomination is down to just two candidates, I believe this is the time for a real discussion about our vision for the future of this great country. I believe a Lincoln Douglas-style debate so that voters can better understand our views on critical issues such as health care, education, energy independence, terrorism and national security is just what we need.
Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, have had recent opportunities to underscore the differences in their positions. It seems only fitting to me that Republican primary voters are offered the same.
So please co-sign my letter to John McCain and ask your friends and family to do so as well.
With deep gratitude,

gap closing on mccain
We are on the move in Texas and you can feel the momentum building. I need you to make an immediate contribution of $25 or more and then find one other person to match your contribution.
The response we are seeing on the ground is gratifying and as we begin a statewide blitz of television advertising you can feel the momentum shifting.
Will you contribute today?
A win in Texas will show the media and voters this race is far from over.
So please help us today by making a contribution. There is no doubt that a win in Texas will fan the flames of the grassfire that started in Iowa and spread to Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kansas and West Virginia.
Please contribute $25 or more online today and keep us moving forward.
The polls are tightening and our new advertising will help us gain traction with voters. Expanding that advertising thanks to your financial support today will add to our momentum heading into March 4.
Every dollar you contribute will be turned into advertising in Texas. Please support our campaign today.
With deep gratitude,

something exciting in texas
I wish you could be out on the trail with Hillary to see the energy and enthusiasm that is there for her every day. That enthusiasm, like your support, means so much to her in her historic run for the White House. The incredible energy every day in Texas and Ohio is something you should see for yourself. So I wanted to show you this video of two recent rallies in south Texas, to give you an idea of the kind of excitement Hillary gets to see every day. Take a look and show your support for Hillary: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/southtexas I know you share that crowd's enthusiasm for Hillary! I appreciate everything you're doing to help her win, and Hillary does too. Thank you, Ann F. Lewis Senior Adviser Hillary Clinton for President |
Main State Convention and More
- Stavros Mendros has remained on staff to assist with organizing our delegates. If you are a precinct leader and have a list of Paul delegates selected at your municipal caucus (even if it is just you) please e-mail their names and town to stavros@ronpaul2008.com . If you are a delegate, but don't have a Ron Paul precinct leader in your town, please do the same.
- Delegate fees are due to the Maine Republican Party no later than March 27th. The fee is $25 and pays for the cost of attending the convention, both delegates and alternates must pay the fee to attend the convention. Some GOP town and city committees are asking for checks from individuals sooner. Please cooperate if you can. If you cannot pay the fee, please email ME@RonPaul2008.com with your name and town. We have already paid the Maine GOP for delegate fees from the campaign, but there is still some unallocated money available.
- Stay in touch with your local meetup groups. These groups are now for delegate organization and should be limited to volunteers and delegates.
- If you are not a delegate, but would like to be one, please e-mail stavros@ronpaul2008.com . There is still an opportunity to fill some delegate slots by March 20th.
- The Ron Paul campaign will have a booth at the State Convention. The Kennebec County group will be in charge of designing, setting up and staffing the booth. Peter and Bonnie Tucker have agreed to organize this effort. If you want to help out please e-mail them at bjpktucker@yahoo.com .
- We will also be hosting a hospitality suite at the state convention. If you would like to help with the hospitality suite please contact me at ken@ronpaul2008.com
- If you are a delegate please plan to attend the convention for both days. If you absolutely cannot attend for two days, May 2nd is the most important of the two days.
- Some Ron Paul activists are now running for state office. This is a great way to continue to spread the message of freedom. Wayne Leach from Winslow is running for State Senate, and so is Tom Golebiewski from Raymond. If you are interested in running for office check out this link: http://mainegov-images.informe.org/ethics/pdf/2008_candidate_guide.pdf .
- Please remove Ron Paul signs from any public property and roadways. State law requires that we take down these signs. Feel free to proudly display your signs on private property
- Please stay in touch. If you have questions or concerns email me ken@ronpaul2008.com . Meanwhile I will send out another update in a few weeks.
Yours Truly,

what matters in this race
This is a hard-fought campaign. You and I both know it. And now the Obama campaign has upped the stakes again. In just 24 hours, you closed the $1.3 million advertising gap with Obama this week. In response, their campaign has bought another $1.9 million worth of airtime. For Hillary to win on March 4, we must close this gap -- and we have to do it quickly. We cannot let this race be decided by Obama's spending advantage on the air. Help Hillary make up the $1.9 million spending gap in 24 hours with your contribution today. The ads we put on the air matter. The number of phone calls we make matters. The rides we give to the polls matter. And most important of all, what you do right now matters. We have the best candidate with the best ideas -- and she's a fighter. She's knows that you are standing with her every step of the way. So let's show the Obama campaign that they can't win this race just by throwing more money at it. Let's match that $1.9 million ad buy of his and make sure this is a race of ideas, because that's a race that we know Hillary will win. Contribute now to help us raise $1.9 million in 24 hours. You've shown Hillary that you are there for her when she needs you, and it means so much to the both of us. Thank you for all you do. Sincerely, Bill Clinton |
keep it up
Dear matt,
It's been a bad week for John McCain -- and it's only going to get worse.
First, we filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission on Monday. Then thousands of Americans stood up and signed their support for an investigation into McCain's rejection of the law he agreed to when he asked for federal matching funds. Many of you spread it through your personal networks, making sure your friends knew about this startling story.
Now McCain and the lobbyists who work for him have scrambled into action, trying to obscure the facts and hoping that the public wouldn't pay attention.
Thanks to our efforts and grassroots action across the country, this story just won't go away -- we've had him on the defensive all week. Could it be that Americans are tired of leaders who think they're above the law?
It's time to step up the pressure. People are starting to learn about the real John McCain: a "reformer" who breaks the very rules he wrote and "maverick" who surrounds himself with corporate lobbyists.
Donations for people like you help us pay for the critical legal, organizing and communications efforts -- but we need to keep it going. While Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama campaign across the country, we're responsible for making sure John McCain doesn't get ahead. Contribute today and make sure the American people get the truth:
http://www.democrats.org/KeepItUp
New York Times: "Did Senator John McCain of Arizona benefit unfairly from rules that automatically placed him on the ballot in Ohio once he qualified for public campaign financing?"
Conservative George Will referred to McCain as a "situational ethicist."
Even the right-wing American Spectator admits that Governor Dean has a point:
So conservatives who enjoy seeing McCain suffer a campaign finance-induced headache are in the unenviable position of siding with DNC chairman Howard Dean.
Bet they love that!
John McCain is proving to be no different from the swift-boating, vote-suppressing Republicans of years past. That's why we have to hit him hard and hit him fast now, before his campaign has the chance to pick up more momentum. From proving him wrong when he said he was doing "exactly what Howard Dean did," to showing how he used his federal funding to get on the ballot in places like Kentucky, we're not letting John McCain off the hook.
Both Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama will need the full support and resources that the Democratic Party has to offer to stand up to John McCain. Contribute $20 or $100 today:
http://www.democrats.org/KeepItUp
John McCain has worked hard on the campaign trail to portray himself as a "maverick" in Washington. But it's becoming clearer and clearer that a McCain presidency would just offer a third Bush term.
He has another reason to be worried: While his campaign struggles to get on its feet, Americans are embracing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Democrats have record voter turnout and record fundraising numbers all across the country.
Our Party will have the candidate, organization, and resources we need to keep John McCain on defense now through November.
Do your part to secure a Democratic White House in 2008. Make a donation now:

Thanks for everything,

something extraordinary
Matthew --
Early this morning, we reached one million people owning a piece of this campaign.
Think about that for a minute.
One million people like you own a stake in a grassroots movement that is not just competing, but thriving, in a political process that's been dominated by special interests for far too long.
You have given your time, energy, and passion to bring about change.
And it's working.
I cannot thank you enough for all you've done, but there are still millions of Americans who remain on the outside of the political process. They are skeptical of politicians and disillusioned by the partisan gridlock of Washington, D.C.
Right now, we have an opportunity to reach out to those people and show them that the change we need is possible.
That's why, on this historic day, we are committing ourselves to a new goal: calling one million people before the March 4th primaries.
Tuesday's contests in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont could be decisive in this race.
Help mark today's historic achievement by picking up the phone, reaching out to potential supporters, and inviting them to join our movement for change:
http://my.barackobama.com/call
No other campaign has ever reached one million donors while still in a competitive primary, and I am grateful for your generosity.
This is an important milestone, not just for our campaign, but also for our party. This level of support will be invaluable as we head toward a general election in which grassroots participation will be more important than ever.
The next six days could decide whether we get that chance. It will take a massive effort across the country to Get Out The Vote on Tuesday, March 4th.
That means reaching out, making phone calls, and building this movement one person at a time.
You can use our online phonebanking tool to call potential supporters in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont from the comfort of your own home.
Start making calls right now:
http://my.barackobama.com/call
When we first started this campaign more than a year ago, the Washington establishment dismissed the idea of a grassroots movement for change.
Then, when we started winning caucuses and primaries in every part of the country, they called our victories "insignificant." They accused us of spreading "false hope" and claimed that we needed a "reality check."
Today, no one can say this movement is not real.
More than one million people have taken ownership of this campaign -- and you cannot be ignored.
Now is the time to pick up the phone and call potential supporters in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Make your voice heard and help reach our goal of one million calls before March 4th:
http://my.barackobama.com/call
Thank you for all your hard work, and for being a part of this historic moment.
Barack
P.S. -- Beginning this Saturday, March 1st, we're holding a One Million for Change canvass across Ohio as a lead up to their primary on March 4th. This canvass will be a great opportunity to reach out to Ohio voters, talk about why you are a part of this movement, and remind them to vote on Primary Day. I hope you'll take part.

catastrophic
Dear matthew,
Having George Bush gone ain't enough. We need to sweep out all of the Republican Senators who aided and abetted his catastrophic policies.
If you're like me and want to see some real change in November, we've got to make a real commitment to expanding our majority right now.
The sad truth of the United States Senate is that it's a lot easier to stop something from happening than to make something happen. And right now, Republicans are using their 49 seats like a roadblock, stopping the change that voters all across this country demanded. The answer isn't to get frustrated at our leaders, it's to give Senate Democrats the reinforcements they need.
No organization is doing more to make sure that Democrats can win the seats needed to expand our one-seat Senate majority than the good folks at the DSCC, and they've got a monthly fundraising goal they have to meet in order to get it done.
Click here to make a contribution of $50, $75 or more to help the DSCC expand our Senate majority. Donate now to help us raise the $60,534 needed to beat our February 29 goal, and a group of Democratic senators will match every single dollar you give, effectively doubling your contribution.
We know that no matter what happens in the race for the White House this November, we're going to need a strong Democratic Senate - either to help pass the agenda of a Democratic president, or block a virtual third Bush term from President McCain (and believe me, I hope this is the only time I ever have to say those words).
The key to winning these seats is a strong game plan. I can tell you that the DSCC has this thing all mapped out. They know what we're going to need, where, and when. But if they're going to execute, they need to raise $60,534 by February 29th.
Click here to make a contribution of $50, $75 or more to help the DSCC expand our Senate majority. Donate now to help us raise the $60,534 needed to beat our February 29 goal, and a group of Democratic senators will match every single dollar you give, effectively doubling your contribution.
There's no question, we have to pump up our majority, and we don't need any performance enhancing drugs to do it - we just need to support the DSCC, and make sure they meet their monthly fundraising goal.
Help us strengthen our majority right now.
Let's have at em,

James Carville

with all that obama-mentum, it's hard to remember there's another candidate with as much support?

My favorite part of working on my mom's campaign is talking to people one-on-one about why they should vote for her. We can use all the help we can get to tell people about why my mom is the leader we all need! There are two great ways for you to help us all win on March 4:
1. We need as many people on the ground in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont as we can get.
If you can travel to any of these states to volunteer March 1-4, you can make a huge difference for my mom's campaign. And take my word for it -- there is no more exciting place to be than on the campaign trail right now!
Please click here to sign up to travel to a March 4 state.
2. We need you on the phones, making calls right from your own home.
Earlier this month, I asked our online community to commit to making a million calls. We blew right past that goal, making record numbers of calls into key states. First, congratulations everyone and thank you!! Second, let's keep it going and try to make more than 1.5 million calls this week!
Please click here to make phone calls from your own home on my mom's behalf.
I've been doing everything I can to help, criss-crossing the primary states, talking to thousands of people. And you know my mom is working her heart out. I'm so proud of the way she keeps fighting every day for what she believes in and for the America she knows we can be.
Thanks for doing everything you are doing,
Chelsea
McCain ups the war imagery
It has been an exciting and hard-fought few months. Support from McCainiacs nationwide fuels our campaign and helps spread our message to fellow supporters who will cast primary votes.
You are one of our strongest supporters, and I join the Senator and our entire campaign organization in expressing our deep gratitude for your commitment.
Your steadfast support fueled a surging campaign through the primaries that is now poised to win the Republican nomination. We should all be proud to stand with John McCain he is ready to be the next President of the United States.
As a special way of saying thanks, we have a unique opportunity for you to stand up and be recognized through our new 'McCain Aces' supporter group. With a donation of $25 dollars or more, you will become a 'McCain Ace' and your name will be permanently featured on our website's 'McCain Aces' board. This wall of recognition will be a record of your support for John McCain. It takes courage to stand with the right presidential candidate through thick and thin, we want to recognize your efforts and commitment.
Please make a donation today by following this link. Once you've made your contribution, your name will appear on www.JohnMcCain.com/McCainAces.
The more Aces we have on our board, the better. After you join, please ask your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors to join you in taking a public stand for John McCain.
We have already begun to see the stepped-up attacks from our Democratic opponents and the liberal media. Our country needs John McCain as its next commander in chief, and it's up to us - his most dedicated supporters - to ensure he is the Republican nominee for president. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Rick Davis, Campaign Manager
P.S. As we begin to see Howard Dean and the DNC attacking our campaign, it's more important than ever to stand with John McCain. We've launched the McCain Aces board on our website to recognize John's most dedicated supporters. With a donation of $25 or more today, you will become a McCain Ace and your name will be added to our board recognizing you for your commitment to electing John McCain as our next president. Please join us today!
Ron Paul Revolution still alive?
February 26, 2008
What thrilling rallies we've just had in Texas. First there were the
Students for Ron Paul at the University of Texas in Austin. The
media said 4,000 came. Our people think there were more like 7,000.
In any event, it was a very enthusiastic gathering of our
revolutionaries, as even the media admitted.
You will not be surprised to know that the young people there cheered
the pure message of liberty: no preemptive wars, no Federal Reserve,
no income tax, no police state, no drug war. Just American liberty
and the Constitution, in the tradition of the framers.
But the rally in Kileen, though much smaller, may have been just as
significant. Kileen is near Fort Hood, and among the 300 people who
attended were many active-duty soldiers (though not in uniform) and
their families. Whether it was the young man going back to Iraq for
his fourth tour, or the sister of a soldier just killed there, they
all wanted change in our foreign policy. Most heartbreaking was the
young mother who asked for a signed copy of the Constitution for her
son, "who will never know his dad." He too was just killed in Iraq.
How can we ask one young American to die for a neocon empire? The
soldiers and their families agree with us, which is why our campaign
gets more financial support from active-duty and retired military
than all the rest combined. They want to defend America, not be part
of some globalist scheme to take away our country's independence.
And by the way ,at both rallies, nobody was for the monstrous
Trans-Texas Corridor or the North American Union.
Coming up soon are the Texas and Ohio primaries, with others like
Pennsylvania not long afterwards. We are contesting every one, and
we will be heard at the Republican national convention in Minneapolis
and beyond. A substantial minority of Americans in all parties, not
to speak of Independents, agree with you and me. Until November and
beyond, I want to work to turn that minority into a majority, with
your help. https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/
Sincerely,
Ron
The Democratic Primary: now #2 responsible for global warming
Matthew --
This morning, the New York Times reported that Senator Clinton is launching what even her aides admit is a "kitchen sink" bombardment of negative attacks against Barack.
This is the same stale, Washington playbook that has driven so many Americans away from the political process.
Yesterday, in a speech on foreign policy, Senator Clinton misrepresented Barack's positions and compared him to George W. Bush.
She questioned his "wisdom to manage our foreign policy and safeguard our national security," despite her support for Bush's war in Iraq -- a war that Barack showed the judgment to oppose before it ever began.
These negative tactics are exactly what voters have been rejecting this election season.
While others focus on trying to tear us down, we will continue to highlight what is most inspiring and most important about this campaign -- you.
And while others may try to score cheap political points, millions of ordinary Americans are talking to their neighbors, knocking on doors, making phone calls, and turning out to primaries and caucuses in record numbers to support this movement for change.
Barack has organized and inspired what yesterday's Time magazine called a "new breed of grassroots campaign -- viral, internet-based, built from the ground up."
Today, we are within reach of a goal that is unprecedented at this point in a presidential primary -- one million people giving to this campaign.
Thank you for being a part of this historic moment.
This campaign has always been about bringing new people into the political process. Please help us reach this goal and show your support for a new kind of politics and a new kind of leadership.

mccain is still in trouble
matt --
I'm Joe Sandler, General Counsel for the DNC. Yesterday we filed a complaint with the FEC after John McCain decided to break the law by ignoring the rules laid out as part of the federal matching funds program.
I don't know if you saw the news, but the press covered the complaint all day. John McCain himself directly responded to Governor Dean at a press conference, saying "We're doing exactly what Howard Dean did in a previous election and what the FEC ruled in the case of Congressman Gephardt."
But that's a lie -- John McCain isn't doing what Governor Dean and Congressman Gephardt did at all.
Governor Dean and Congressman Gephardt followed the law and were granted written permission by the FEC to withdraw from the federal matching funds program.
To prove it, we have a copy of the letter Governor Dean received from the FEC in 2003 granting him permission to drop out. If McCain is doing "exactly what Howard Dean did," he'll have no trouble producing a letter of his own.
But you and I know McCain's lying -- he doesn't have a letter like that from the FEC. Not only has he refused to get permission, he's been warned by FEC Chairman David Mason that he can't unilaterally drop out of the program. That's why we filed the complaint in the first place, and it's why tens of thousands of Americans like you signed your support.
You can read Governor Dean's letter from the FEC and invite your friends and family to sign on in support right here:
http://www.democrats.org/invite/McCainBusted
John McCain abused the system to keep his campaign afloat until he could raise more money from special interests and lobbyists. Taxpayers don't want their money to be used by Washington politicians to help raise more money from lobbyists -- is this McCain's idea of ethics and reform?
Thanks to you, this "maverick reformer" is feeling the pressure of his own hypocrisy. From staffing his campaign with a team of lobbyists to breaking campaign finance laws, his total lack of integrity has never been more clear.
Keep it up,

is someone running out of money?
You have joined the campaign at an amazing time. This weekend, our supporters surpassed a $1.3 million goal President Clinton set to help us get a powerful new ad on the air in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont. Now we need your help to expand our buy.
We still face a spending gap on the air with our opponent. Senator Obama is putting everything on the line to win on March 4, and he has virtually unlimited funds. We cannot let his massive war chest be the deciding factor in this race.
Every dollar you give today will make a difference to help Hillary win. Everything that comes in is going right back out to fund critical efforts to get out the vote and put ads like "Moment" on the air.
Click here to watch the ad and make a contribution.
Thank you for your incredible support.

Huckabee does Texas
Tomorrow we will begin television advertising statewide in Texas.
Right now, I need you to make an immediate contribution of $25 or more to our campaign. We need your support to help increase our television advertising and pay for a new wave of get out the vote calls.
I have a full schedule of events in Texas starting on Wednesday and will campaign through the weekend. We have a great opportunity to win Texas but that will not happen without your immediate financial support. We are just over 50% of the way to our goal of $1.5 million by March 4. We need to close the gap immediately.
Will you help us reach this goal by making an immediate contribution?
We are counting on your renewed support. Now is the time to make a difference for our campaign. After you make a contribution please call through your lists of friends and family and convince them to make a contribution as well. No contribution amount is too small.
Big issues are at stake this election. Republicans need a champion who will fight for real border security, the Human Life Amendment, the Marriage Amendment, conservative judges, massive tax reform and cutting federal spending. These are issues worth fighting for.
If you want to see a Republican nominee who will fight for these issues everyday on the campaign trail, then I am your candidate. Tell your neighbors. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Remind them this race isn't over.
Our Party needs a strong champion capable of taking on Senator Obama or Senator Clinton. I am that candidate. I have been a Governor for 10 and 1/2 years. I have fought for these issues and I have the experience to get things done. I know real change doesn't start in Washington, it starts in our hearts and when it does, anything is possible. My hopes are high and you and your family remain first and foremost in my thoughts. I have been fighting for you since Day 1 and I continue to do so.
Please make an immediate contribution of $25 or more today. We have come so far together. Lets continue onward.
Texas for Huckabee!
With deep gratitude,

busted?
Dear matt,
There was a lot of talk last week about John McCain's blatant hypocrisy on ethics and integrity in Washington.
Here we go again.
McCain is now breaking the law by ignoring the campaign spending restrictions for the Republican primary that came when he asked for federal matching funds -- funds he used as collateral on a loan that helped keep his campaign going.
But now that the lobbyist and special interest money has started pouring into his campaign, he's trying to back out of the promise he made just a few months ago. They're feeding so much cash into his bank account, this "reformer" wants nothing to do with federal campaign finance laws anymore.
That's why today, we're filing a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission demanding that John McCain be held to the campaign finance laws. Trying to back out shows a total lack of integrity and honesty -- he made a deal with the American people to to abide by the law, and in return, he was guaranteed taxpayer money that he used to back a loan.
matt, I'd like you to add your name in support of our complaint, and ask as many people as you can to sign on. American taxpayers made a deal with John McCain -- now that he's flush with lobbyist cash, he wants to pretend that it never happened.
Sign on right now:
http://www.democrats.org/McCainBusted
Here's the background on the situation.
A few months ago, John McCain applied for and was approved to receive federal matching funds. Because he couldn't find enough people to fund his campaign, he was also forced to apply for a $4 million line of credit, which he secured by using the federal matching funds as collateral.
By taking the federal funding, he agreed to spend no more than $57 million until the Republican convention. But so far, his campaign has spent at least $49 million -- leaving him with less than $10 million to campaign with through September.
Now that he's won the nomination and has the support of the Republican lobbyist and special interest machine, he's trying to ignore that the whole thing ever happened. He recently wrote a letter to the FEC telling them that he was backing out, even though the FEC is very clear that any request to withdraw from the agreement must be approved; you can't just change your mind and take it back -- legally, you have to be given permission.
McCain isn't asking because he knows he'll never be granted permission, and he doesn't want to have to accept the funding restrictions he agreed to when he used the money as collateral for a loan. He's ripping a page right from George Bush's playbook: ignoring the laws when they aren't convenient and hoping no one will notice.
Stand up and show him that hundreds of thousands of people have noticed -- he can't change the rules in the middle of the game because he doesn't like how things are going for him:
http://www.democrats.org/McCainBusted
Using government programs when it's politically convenient and breaking the rules when it's not ... remind you of anyone?
Just like George Bush, John McCain thinks he's above the law. McCain poses as a reformer, but seems to think reforms apply to everyone but him.
Time to send him a message.

Matthew --
A week from tomorrow could be the decisive day in this campaign.
We started behind in the two biggest states that will vote on March 4th, Ohio and Texas, but as we spend time on the ground, we are gaining strength.
But that's nothing new for us. We have started as the underdog in just about every state. And thanks to a growing movement of support from ordinary people across the country, we came from behind and won the last 11 contests in a row.
We can do this again.
It's not going to be easy -- attacks from our Democratic opponent and the presumptive Republican nominee are growing more frequent and more desperate. And the size of these two states will require unprecedented energy and resources to organize supporters and persuade undecided voters.
But we're within striking distance of our goal of one million people owning a piece of this campaign by March 4th, and every single person getting involved makes a difference.
If you make a donation through our matching program, you will double the impact of a first-time donor.
Encourage a fellow supporter to be one of the million. Make a matching donation right now:
https://donate.barackobama.com/promise
We're within reach of this extraordinary goal for the same reason we've come from behind to unexpectedly win 26 out of 37 contests so far.
We're succeeding because our campaign has always been about bringing new people into the process.
Thanks to you, we're on the verge of history. Please do what you can to see this through.
Thank you,
Barack

If you've already signed up to come to Ohio, you will be contacted by the campaign with details about where and when you should arrive.
Dear Matthew,
Something special is going on in Ohio this weekend.
All across the state, supporters are launching a One Million for Change canvass -- with the goal of knocking on one million doors before the Ohio primary on March 4th.
This effort is a terrific opportunity to reach out to Ohio voters face-to-face, and to put our amazing grassroots energy to work in support of Barack in the final days before the primary. The race in Ohio is extremely close, so we need supporters from all over to get involved.
Sign up to take a trip to Ohio for the One Million for Change canvass, and help Get Out The Vote for Barack:
http://oh.barackobama.com/OHOneMillion
Across the country, we've seen the amazing things that happen when people work together, united behind a common purpose.
Now, we're heading into the March 4th Ohio primary with the most states, the most delegates, and having won the last 11 contests in a row.
The election in Ohio will play an important role in determining the Democratic nominee for President. Our Democratic opponent has indicated that Ohio is a "must-win" state, so a strong showing for our campaign in this contest could help decide the outcome of the nomination race.
The One Million for Change canvass is an important way to make that happen. Be part of this effort, and help make sure Ohio voters hear about the kind of change that Barack will bring to Washington.
No prior experience is required, and I promise this will be an experience of a lifetime. Come to Ohio, meet your fellow supporters, and talk to Ohio voters about why you are a part of this movement.

I'm not dead yet!
My candidacy is, and always has been, about convictions – and the issues and core values that are critical to our country’s future, such protecting traditional marriage, the sanctity of life, individual empowerment and a revamping of our federal tax code to encourage productivity. It’s about lifting Americans up, from hope to higher ground, with a positive vision for America’s future that is grounded in a belief in our nation’s basic goodness, and defined by a ‘can—do’ spirit that knows how to gets things done. My goal is to offer Republican voters, a voice and a choice in this election.
The last four out of five U.S. Presidents have been governors, and there is a reason for this: the challenges facing our nation require steady, experienced, executive management. As governor of Arkansas for 10 ½ years, I delivered on my promises to cut taxes 94 times, reduce welfare by half, reform health care for children and our education system, and transform our transportation infrastructure. My record of results, achieved with a Democrat legislature, gives a meaningful viability to my candidacy.
There are millions of Republicans from across this country who have yet to be heard from. Clearly we were disappointed by the results in Wisconsin, but I look forward to campaigning hard in Texas and Ohio this week – and taking my case before the good people of those states.
I encourage you to leave a comment on our campaign blog today and share with me your thoughts.
Emailing you from the road in Texas and with deep gratitude,

We had great events this week in Plano, Houston and San Antonio. Our message is resonating and voters are enthusiastic. Too many however, report of friends and family that have bought into the media story that Senator McCain has clinched the nomination. He has not and until he does our campaign is committed to pushing onward.
Texas is a great state for us to seize the momentum. We feel our success hinges on our ability to fund our get out the vote efforts and a new round of statewide television and radio advertising.
Your support is critical to our efforts here in Texas. I urge you to strongly consider an immediate contribution.
With deep gratitude,

bring out the big guns?
Dear john,
Thursday night in the debate, in one remarkable moment, we saw the kind of president Hillary is going to be -- the strong, compassionate, and brilliant woman who will make us proud as president.
Everyone in the upcoming primary states of Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont needs to see that moment. The campaign has put together a 60-second ad with the video, but we cannot run it without your immediate financial support. We need to raise $1.3 million in the next 24 hours to put this ad on the air.
Watch the ad and make a contribution to help us get it on the air.
We're just 10 days away from a monumental day of voting, one that will decide the outcome of this remarkable contest between two history-making campaigns. The Obama campaign realizes the stakes and is putting it all on the line with a massive advertising campaign.
We have to give Hillary the resources she needs to make this a fair fight -- including running the ad based on her amazing moment from Thursday night's debate. We need to raise $1.3 million to get this ad on the air and to match the Obama campaign's ad spending in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont. We have to reach that goal in the next 24 hours.
Watch our new ad and contribute to help us get it on the air in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
With your extraordinary help she will win. And knowing that you are there for her now, as you have been throughout this race, means more than you can possibly imagine.
We can do this together. Let's keep working.

Mccain under fire? srsly?
Dear McCain Supporter,
Well, here we go. We could expect attacks were coming; as soon as John McCain appeared to be locking up the Republican nomination, the liberal establishment and their allies at the New York Times have gone on the attack. Today's front-page New York Times story is particularly disgusting - an un-sourced hit-and-run smear campaign designed to distract from the issues at stake in this election. With John McCain leading a number of general-election polls against Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the New York Times knew the time to attack was now, and they did. We will not allow their scurrilous attack against a great American hero to stand.
The New York Times -- the newspaper that gave MoveOn.org a sweetheart deal to run advertisements attacking General Petraeus -- has shown once again that it cannot exercise good journalistic judgment when it comes to dealing with a conservative Republican. We better get ready for more of the Democrats' attacks over the coming months as the Democrats pick their nominee, MoveOn.org starts spending their unlimited soft money, and the liberal media tosses standards aside in an attempt to stop our momentum. We need your help to counteract the liberal establishment and fight back against the New York Times by making an immediate contribution today.
John McCain has a 24-year record of serving our country with honor and integrity. He has led the charge to limit the money and influence of the special interests in politics and stomp out corruption. His life and his record prove just how preposterous the smear by the New York Times really is.
Objective observers are viewing this article exactly as they should - as a sleazy smear attack from a liberal newspaper against the conservative Republican frontrunner. Sean Hannity said, after reading the article three times, "It was so full of innuendo and so lacking of fact, and so involved in smear, I came to the conclusion that the goal here was to bring up a 20-year-old scandal." Washington attorney Bob Bennett, who was the Democrat counsel during the Keating investigation, said, "This is a real hit job." Joe Scarborough called the allegations "outrageous." Even pundit Alan Colmes -- not known for his conservative leanings -- concludes "this is a non-story."
Yet, it is there, right on the front page of the New York Times. It is now dominating the cable news coverage. We can only expect these sorts of baseless attacks to continue as we move into the general election cycle. We are going to need your help today, and your continued help in the future to have the resources to respond. We'll never match the reach of a front-page New York Times article, but with your immediate help today, we'll be able to respond and defend our nominee from the liberal attack machine.
Sincerely,

Rick Davis, Campaign Manager

| My Friends, Last night, I was able to thank the people of Wisconsin and Washington for bringing me one step closer to securing our party's nomination for president. Today, I want to specially thank my online supporters for your hard work that has brought me to this point. As we move toward officially securing the nomination, I am actively working to unite our party for the great contest that we face in November. If I am to succeed in this endeavor, I will need your help as a valued and active member of my team. We have traveled a great distance together already in this campaign, and overcome more than a few obstacles. But as I said last week, now comes the hard part and for America, the bigger decision. Will we make the right changes to restore the people's trust in their government and meet the great challenges of our time with wisdom and faith in the values we hold dear? Or will we heed appeals for change that ignore the lessons of history, and lack confidence in the intelligence and ideals of free people? I will fight every moment of every day in this campaign to make sure Americans are not deceived by an eloquent, but empty call for change that promises no more than a holiday from history and a return to the false promises and failed policies of a tired philosophy that trusts in government more than people. Our purpose is to keep this blessed country free, safe, prosperous and proud. And the changes we offer to the institutions and policies of government will reflect and rely upon the strength, industry, aspirations and decency of the people we serve. The most important obligation of the next president is to protect Americans from the threat posed by violent extremists who despise us, our values and modernity itself. The institutions and doctrines we relied on in the Cold War are no longer adequate to protect us in a struggle where suicide bombers might obtain the world's most terrifying weapons. That is why my friends, while I am confident of the eventual outcome of this primary race - the stakes are too high to take the nomination for granted. There are still more primaries, there are still three of us competing for the nomination and I am still working night and day to make sure that we have the funds necessary to compete and win the remaining state primaries. I don't often get much free time on the campaign trail, but I was able to record a special video message that I hope you will take a few minutes to watch by following this link today. Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely, P.S. With each primary contest, our campaign moves closer to officially securing the Republican Party's nomination for president. I have recorded a special video message and I hope you will take a few minutes to watch it by following this link. Thank you, I am grateful for your dedication and support. |

Here's what you need to know this morning. We were outspent in Wisconsin by a 4 to 1 margin on ads -- and we can't let that happen on March 4.
If we want to win in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont, we've got to even the odds. We can't let the Obama campaign overwhelm us financially. Today, I am calling on you and other online supporters to act together, making sure we have the resources to create a fair, level playing field on March 4.
Contribute now to help us level the playing field.
Let this remarkable two-person contest for the Democratic nomination be determined by the strength of our ideas, the quality of our leadership, or the depth of our experience. But whatever you do, don't let the outcome of these crucial March 4 contests be decided by a lopsided spending advantage for the Obama campaign.
Only you -- our incredible online community -- can act quickly and decisively enough to create a level playing field. And with everything on the line, that's exactly what I'm asking you to do.
We're putting everything on the line. Contribute now.
There are just two weeks left before voters go to the polls in one of the most crucial days of voting yet. We must make sure we can hold our own against an avalanche of Obama TV ads, direct mail, phone calls, and online advertising.
I have total confidence that, as long as we have the resources to compete, March 4 will be a day of dramatic victories for our campaign. Let's make it happen.
Thanks,

Hillary Rodham Clinton
P.S. I am counting on your leadership and financial support. Please do all you can -- and act as quickly as possible.

the yahoo email update
Matthew --
Today, the people of Wisconsin voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new kind of politics.
They rejected an onslaught of negative attacks and attempts to distract them from the common concerns we all have about the direction of our country.
No doubt we'll hear much more of these attacks and distractions in the days to come.
But the noise of these tired, old political games will not drown out the voices of millions calling for change.
You can help bring a new voice to our political process. By giving through our matching program, you will double the impact of someone giving for the first time this year.
We're nearing our goal of 500,000 people giving so far in 2008. You've already donated to this campaign -- but now you can help push us over the top and bring in someone new.
Make a matching donation right now:

We won't know until late tonight the results of today's Hawaii caucus, but we'll let you know how that turns out tomorrow.
If we win in Hawaii, it will be ten straight victories -- a streak no one thought possible, and the best position we can be in when Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island, and Vermont vote on March 4th.
Thank you for making this possible,
Matthew -- The so-called "American Leadership Project" will take unlimited contributions from individuals and is organized the same way as the infamous Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. ABC News reports that this group is seeking 100 Clinton supporters to each give $100,000 to fund its $10 million effort to promote Senator Clinton and "contrast" her positions with Barack Obama's. That's the opposite of how politics should work, and the opposite of how Barack Obama has run this campaign. The same day this group's activity was revealed, we announced that nearly 1 million individual people have donated to this campaign. Stand up against politics-as-usual. Help reach the goal of 1 million donors calling out for change by encouraging a first-time donor to own a piece of this campaign. If you give as part of our matching program, you will double the gift of a new donor. You can even choose to exchange a note with them about why you are part of this movement. Make your matching donation now: https://donate.barackobama.com/promise Groups like this are forbidden from working primarily for the purpose of electing or defeating a candidate. Yet here we have a committee that springs up on the eve of an election, promotes a specific candidate, and has no history or apparent purpose of lobbying specific issues outside the benefit to the candidate of these communications. This raises a number of legal and ethical issues, but more than anything it reveals an attitude towards politics as a game that is played to win at all costs. Americans are ready for change. We are tired of Swift Boat-style groups and smear campaigns. Help reach the unprecedented goal of a million voices calling for a new kind of politics and a new kind of leadership. Make a matching donation now: https://donate.barackobama.com/promise I'll keep you updated as the situation with this group evolves. Thank you for your support, David David Plouffe Dear Matt, News broke yesterday that a few wealthy Clinton supporters are gearing up for a massive spending campaign to boost her chances in the big upcoming contests in Texas and Ohio on March 4th.

Obama for America
The New York Times has proven once again that the liberal mainstream media will do whatever it takes to put Senator Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama in the White House.
From the beginning of Campaign 2008, liberal media pundits have fawned over the Democrat presidential candidates while ignoring their lack of substance on the issues. You can be certain that as the campaign heats up they will continue to mislead voters with their anti-Republican agenda.
Matt, Republicans must fight back against the mainstream media's clear liberal bias -- and we need your help to do it.
Please make an urgent secure online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50, or $25 to help the RNC get our responsible message of lower taxes, a strong national defense, and limited government past the liberal media filter and directly to the voters.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Best Wishes,

Chairman, Republican National Committee
Dear matthew,
You know why I am always calling my friends at the DSCC before I go on the air? Because if you don't have all the facts, you look awfully foolish.
The DSCC seems to know all the outrageous things Republicans do in every Senate race out there. After a ten-minute phone call, I end up madder than ever.
But you know what they say: Don't get mad, get even. And the best way to get even is with the facts and the truth on your side. So now, the DSCC is going to send regular updates with the absolute latest news about every Senate race.
It's called "The Rant" which I think is perfect because there is plenty in here that gets me fired up. I had to send it on to you, because I know you'll just love it.
Sincerely,

James Carville

That's how long we have until American troops can leave Iraq according to John McCain's recent comment that we could stay at war for "maybe 100 years." McCain also said such a ludicrously long timetable "would be fine with me."
The thing is, John McCain isn't the only Republican senator who doesn't have a clue on Iraq. At least four of the DSCC's top targets have a long and sordid history of blindly supporting the Bush-McCain status quo.
You can see just how lockstep they all are in the latest DSCC web video. We match the records of four top Republican targets with John McCain and George Bush point for point and quote for quote.
Click here to see how the most vulnerable Republican senators have always supported the failed Bush-McCain status quo in Iraq. Watch the latest DSCC web video.
John McCain and the rest of the Senate Republicans may be fine with continuing Bush's failed policies for the next 100 years, but most Americans couldn't disagree more. They want real change, not Senators who echo the Bush status quo in their quotes and their votes.
Colorado: The Reverse Romney
Remember when Mitt Romney realized that he wasn't nearly Neanderthal enough to win the Republican presidential nomination, so he started flip-flopping on basically everything? One minute, he was for stem cell research. During the campaign, he was adamantly against it. You think he's pro-choice, but - poof! - now he's always been anti.
It's déjà -vu all over again in Colorado. In the 2004 Republican Senate primary, Bob Schaffer was the ultra-conservative candidate, attacking his opponents over abortion, pornography, and gay marriage. Turns out that after four more years of the Bush disaster, the same playbook doesn't work.
This time around, it's kinder, gentler mainstream Republicanism all the way: tax cuts, "smaller government," and staying the course in Iraq. (This is what passes as moderate in the modern Republican Party!?)
It's gotten so bad that ColoradoPols.com christened Schaffer's machinations the "Reverse Romney." The only thing we don't like about that nickname is that we didn't think of it ourselves.
It would be nice if it all meant that we could just wait a few months before Schaffer slicks back his hair, blows a pile of money, and drops out of the race, but the truth is that this is going to be a tight race right up to Election Day.
Democratic Congressman Mark Udall is virtually tied in the latest polls, and the DSCC will work as hard as we can to make sure he comes out on top.
New Mexico: CQ Makes an Upgrade
The latest fundraising reports from New Mexico show that Democratic Congressman Tom Udall (Mark's cousin) raised more money than both of the leading Republican candidates combined - even though his opponents each hosted ritzy fundraisers with America's worst hunter, Dick Cheney! This is a crucial measure of success in what is sure to be an expensive race.
Even the venerable DC-insider publication CQ Politics recognizes the shifting ground and has upgraded its rating of this race from "No Clear Favorite" to "Leans Democratic."
It's all very good news, but we can't get too cocky. We don't have to tell you how good the Karl Rove Republicans are at swift-boating front-running Democrats. We've seen it way too often and we can't let it happen here.
Sununu to New Hampshire: Stop Whining
"Stop complaining about health care," Republican Senator John Sununu told a gathering of Concord business leaders. It would be sort of sad if it weren't just so bizarre.
Americans spend more than $2 trillion on health care. That's $6,700 per person and more than 15% of the total GDP. And the numbers keep going up. The total cost is expected to reach $4 trillion in the next decade.
The skyrocketing cost of health care is obviously a huge issue in this campaign. It affects public health, working families, small businesses, big businesses, and the very fabric of our economic competiveness.
"Stop complaining about health care" is all the Granite State hears from its duly elected representative in Washington.
Is it any wonder that former Democratic Governor Jeanne Shaheen is up by a whopping 17 points in the latest Senate race polling from New Hampshire?
Now that the state Democratic Party has united around Shaheen, we can get to work on maintaining that lead right through Election Day.
The best part is that once Shaheen is elected, they won't have to complain about health care anymore because the strong Democratic Senate will be doing something about it.

Finally, just a reminder that in addition to The Rant, you can always get the absolute latest news from Senate races around the country at the official DSCC blog, From the Roots:

Dear Matthew,
Wow. In 2 days, MoveOn members across the nation signed up to host over 900 "Yes We Can" parties to get out the vote for Barack Obama in Texas! And yesterday, Bill Clinton said that if Obama wins Texas on March 4, he'll win the nomination.1
So on Sunday, March 2, we're holding the biggest phone bank in presidential primary history. Folks everywhere will come to Obama parties armed with cell phones—ready to call thousands of Texas MoveOn members whose votes could put Obama over the top on March 4.
Can you help us reach 1,000 Obama parties by hosting one in your living room on Sunday, March 2, at 4 p.m.? To host a party, click here:http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=111&id=12204-4820096-5E_lAE&t=822
There will be a lot of interest in making calls—people will just need a place to go. If ever there were a Sunday afternoon to help Obama, this is it. You don't have to know anything about Texas voting to host, and you don't need tons of phone lines. We'll get you all the information you need and folks will bring their own phones. We'll also help you build your crowd.
At these parties, we'll make sure folks know about the unusual primary-plus-caucus system in Texas, which allows voters to double their impact. If we can get our 125,000 MoveOn members in Texas to flood primary and caucus locations, Obama will win. But it's up to us to make sure everyone knows how the system works.
By opening up your living room for a couple hours, you can help put Obama over the top. Please sign up to host a "Yes We Can" Obama party here:http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=111&id=12204-4820096-5E_lAE&t=823

matt --
If you had a TV on yesterday, you saw who jumped to his defense -- the team of lobbyists who work for him, led by campaign manager and lobbyist Rick Davis, and the well-oiled right-wing noise machine, led by Rush Limbaugh. In an ironic message to McCain supporters yesterday, lobbyist Davis wrote...
[John McCain] has led the charge to limit the money and influence of the special interests in politics and stomp out corruption. They spent the day breathlessly assailing the New York Times as "liberal," ignoring the ethics lapses the team of reporters had uncovered. The fact is, John McCain is facing legitimate questions about lobbyists, favors, and campaign contributions, just as he did during the Keating Five scandal that nearly derailed his political career twenty years ago.
Seeing more dollar signs, the McCain campaign and the RNC decided to jump at the chance to take advantage of the distraction they had created to raise money. They had spent the day firing their supporters up, trying desperately to change the subject, and then they literally cashed in on it. It was textbook sleaze.
So, let's hit back.
Don't let John McCain's team of lobbyists, Rush Limbaugh and the right-wing noise machine, the RNC and their special-interest backers take advantage of John McCain's most recent ethics scandal -- it's disgusting, and we can't let them get ahead like this. They're screaming as loud as they can, and you can send a message right back:
http://www.democrats.org/McCainEthics
You and I know the truth. We know that John McCain is no maverick; he's no reformer. He promises the same ethics that have defined Washington and the Republican Party for far too long.
Just read what the Washington Post had to say today about John McCain's campaign operatives...
For years, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has railed against lobbyists and the influence of "special interests" in Washington, touting on his campaign Web site his fight against "the 'revolving door' by which lawmakers and other influential officials leave their posts and become lobbyists for the special interests they have aided."
But when McCain huddled with his closest advisers at his rustic Arizona cabin last weekend to map out his presidential campaign, virtually every one was part of the Washington lobbying culture he has long decried.
The facts are clear: from Keating Five to today, throughout his 25 years in Washington John McCain has consistently taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from his special interest friends, flown on their corporate jets, and then turned around and tried to do favors for them. And he's surrounded himself with just the type of people he claims to fight against -- including Rick Davis, Charlie Black, and senior advisers Steve Schmidt and Mark McKinnon.
McCain and the right-wing noise machine will do anything and say anything to win. Turning an ethics scandal into a fundraising opportunity is just the start, and exactly what you'd expect a team full of lobbyists to come up with.
Now we have to make sure that every voter in America knows it. We need your help to make sure we can take them on -- we can't afford four more years of lobbyists, corporate interests, and George Bush's Washington.
Send a message about how Washington should work. Match the McCain campaign and the RNC right now:
http://www.democrats.org/McCainEthics
Thanks for hitting back,
Howard Dean
P.S. -- John McCain may try to claim that the past careers of his advisers are irrelevant, but look at this passage from today's Washington Post article about Charlie Black, McCain adviser and chairman of lobbying firm BKSH and Associates...
But even as Black provide a private voice and a public face for McCain, he also leads his lobbying firm, which offers corporate interests and foreign governments the promise of access to the most powerful lawmakers. Some of those companies have interests before the Senate and, in particular, McCain's Commerce Committee.John McCain literally has a lobbyist for "corporate interests and foreign governments" working from the "Straight Talk Express."
Black said he does a lot of his work by telephone from McCain's Straight Talk Express bus.
Where will they work from if he wins the White House?
Make a contribution right now to stop this kind of politics:

He won't quit
Two new polls in Texas from American Research Group and Public Opinion Strategies show a 6 and 4 point lead for Senator McCain in Texas.
As I said yesterday in my email, Texas is the place to fight for the nomination. These leads are small considering the attention the media has been heaping on Senator McCain as the "frontrunner."
In fact, we have seen numbers like these before in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kansas and Louisiana. States which we went on to win!
How did we win? We never gave up. We made calls, we emailed friends and family, we waved signs, we handed out literature, we ran television ads (thanks to your generosity) and we won.
The path to the convention is clear before us but first we need to win Texas. The polls are close and closing in our favor. Let us win Texas together.
With deep gratitude,

When I ran my first marathon, I have to tell you it was hard finishing the race. In fact, I know that I would not have finished without the strong support of friends, family and complete strangers cheering me on.
Today, the Huckabee Rangers are running a marathon for this campaign as they try and complete almost 26,000 voter contact calls to Wisconsin voters before 9 PM today.
Like you, the Rangers believe very strongly in our campaign and I want to show them how thankful I am, and frankly we all are for their support. You see, since South Carolina, our campaign has relied on the Rangers to make over 275,000 voter contact calls in key states such as Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas and Georgia. Since last Thursday, Rangers have made over 28,000 calls to Wisconsin voters and as you can expect finishing this marathon of calls today will be a great challenge.
To show our appreciation for their efforts, I am asking every supporter to thank the Rangers by leaving a comment on our campaign blog today and then please make a contribution of $25 or more to help move us closer to our fundraising goal.
If you would like to join the Rangers making calls click here.
Please thank the Rangers by leaving a comment on our blog today and then consider making a contribution of $25 or more today.
Rangers are running a marathon for our campaign today. Help me cheer them on to the end of their race.
With deep gratitude,

Hillary is sending me emails now! yay!

When the bright lights are off and the speeches are over, who can you count on to listen to you, to stand up and deliver solutions?
Americans need solutions to the challenges they face every single day, and they are depending on us to deliver them. I'm in this race to make a real difference in people's lives, but first I need you to help me win.
Critical primaries are approaching, and I need your help now in this neck-and-neck race for the nomination.
Contribute now to help us prepare for the next round of primaries.
The story of this campaign is your story. It's the story of hundreds of thousands of people who have contributed to this campaign.
It's the story of how grassroots supporters came through at the exact right moment -- when I needed you the most. I can't tell you what you've meant to me.
You've made the difference for me all along, and now I need you again. There's never been a race for the nomination this close, and what you do right now could be the deciding factor in this race.
Contribute today and help me win.
Every day on the campaign trail, I talk with people who know how important the result of this race is for themselves and their families.
I promise you this: I will do everything in my power to wage a strong campaign worthy of you and all those who are rallying to our cause.
Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton
in soviet russia, superdelegate choose.... oh wait.
Friend --
As you've probably heard, there could be a wildcard in the race for the Democratic nomination.
We firmly believe that the candidate who has won the most pledged delegates -- the result of having more voters in more places supporting your campaign -- will be the Democratic nominee.
But to be safe, we are working to attract the support of "superdelegates" -- party officials and Democratic officeholders from across the country -- who also have a vote at the Democratic National Convention.
You may already know some superdelegates -- they include senators, governors, and even former presidents and vice presidents. But many others are ordinary people who hold positions in the state and local party operations.
These nearly 800 superdelegates will vote alongside the more than 3,000 pledged delegates who are chosen in the various state primaries and caucuses. The candidate that gets a majority of all delegates (superdelegates and pledged delegates combined) will be the Democratic nominee for president.
Right now, Barack is ahead in the contest for pledged delegates. We've won 23 contests out of the 35 that have been held so far -- including the last 8 in a row. And with our decisive victories in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC on Tuesday, we now lead by more than 135 pledged delegates in the race for the Democratic nomination.
While we intend to continue winning states and expanding our lead among the pledged delegates, and believe that will likely ensure that Barack is the Democratic nominee, we're also doing the work of reaching out to superdelegates and making sure as many as possible support Barack Obama.
Here's where you can play a key role.
Our work so far has taught us one important lesson: that your personal story about why you support Barack Obama is often the most powerful persuasion tool for someone who's undecided. That's true whether that undecided voter is your neighbor or a superdelegate.
The story of where you're from, what brought you into the political process, the issues that matter to you, and why you became part of this movement has the potential to inspire someone who could cast a deciding vote in this contest.
Our staff will compile stories from supporters like you and make them a key part of the conversation with superdelegates as Barack asks for their support.
Share your story to help persuade superdelegates now:
http://my.barackobama.com
I've received a lot of email from folks asking how best to help with the superdelegate effort, and this is it.
Your note, combined with those of other Obama supporters, will tell the story of an extraordinary movement of ordinary people -- a story with a common thread of hope that becomes all the more powerful when it brings together the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our supporters.
Together we're building something historic, and your story can help make someone else a part of it.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
David

huckabee in desperate times?
A few weeks ago, I stood at Chuck Norris' ranch before a crowd of people and said that Texas would be the place where the dynamics of this race changed dramatically in our favor.
Since then, after winning West Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Louisiana and fighting close races in Washington, Oklahoma, Missouri and Virginia we have positioned ourselves to do just that.
Remember the Republican nominee must have 1,191 votes to claim the nomination or else there will be a brokered convention where the Party's top candidates will have an opportunity to make an impassioned plea as to why they are the best choice to represent the Republican Party in the fall against the Democrat candidate.
Before we get to a brokered convention however we will need to win Texas and seize the momentum. For this to happen however, we must have your immediate financial support. We are laying it all on the field in Texas and we need you to join us.
Will you make an immediate contribution of $25 or more? Will you stand with me and fight for Texas and reclaim the momentum in the race for the Republican nomination?
This race is about issues. This race is about you.
The fight for Texas is critical. We will invest your support into television ads, targeted voter contact efforts and new campaign materials. Every dollar counts. To compete in the March 4 Texas primary we estimate we must raise an additional $1.5 million by then. To accomplish this, we need you to renew your financial support today. Remember a contribution of $25 or more will help us move closer to the goal and you can be certain we will invest it wisely.
With deep gratitude,

McCain lapel pin! Get one for your office suit today!
Dear McCain Supporter,
As we work towards wrapping up the Republican nomination for president, working hard in the next primary states of Wisconsin, Washington, Ohio, Texas, Vermont, and Rhode Island, we need your help bringing our party together behind John McCain. As McCain backers, we must work to pick up the remaining delegates needed to win the nomination. Your support is crucial in sending John McCain to the White House as our next president, and that's why I ask for your help today.
John McCain remains steadfast in his commitment to leadership that promotes principle over politics, and now he needs a commitment from you. With your immediate contribution of $100 or more, you will be sent an official John McCain 2008 lapel pin to identify you as a key McCain supporter.
As president, John McCain will reduce the size of the federal government, reduce your tax burden and win the war against radical Islamic extremism. John McCain's vision for our country is a stark contrast to both Democratic candidates who want to expand the size of the federal government, raise your taxes and immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq because of mounting political pressure [like a home population increasingly fed up with the war?].
The challenges facing our nation today demand tough solutions and these solutions require real leadership. Show your friends, family and neighbors that John McCain is the leader who will unite our party and win in November by following this link to make a donation for your exclusive lapel pin.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,![]()

P.S. As a supporter of John McCain's presidential campaign, you will receive a special McCain 2008 lapel pin with your donation of $100 or more today. Please show your support by making a donation and proudly wearing the McCain lapel pin. Thank you.
Message From Ron
February 18, 2008
The DC neocons think their old dream is about to come true. They
think they can defeat me in the Republican congressional primary in
Texas on March 4th. And you know what? They may be right.
My opponent, who describes himself as a traditional conservative, is
a dedicated servitor of all the special interests who have given us
the disaster of recent years, from unconstitutional wars to a looming
recession, from huge deficits to massive new welfare programs.
A Republican operative allied with the worst forces in DC recently
said: "Give what you can [to Ron Paul's opponent]. Ron Paul is
running scared -- using his Presidential campaign's donors' money to
subsidize a desperate last-minute attempt to save his Congressional
seat."
That is a lie, of course. It is illegal to use presidential campaign
donations in my congressional race. The congressional campaign has
to stand on its own. But so far, we have raised only about a third
of what a well-funded effort would need.
In my 10 terms in Congress, I have not only been able to serve my
constituents, and help them, for example, negotiate federal red-tape.
I have also been able to defend our principles of less spending,
lower taxes, no inflation, and strict adherence to the Constitution.
Some people in DC laugh at the idea that I should obey my oath of
office, and ask first of any proposed legislation, is it
constitutional? But I know that you share my support for the vision
of the framers.
My friend Congressmen Wayne Gilchrest (R-Maryland) was just defeated
in his primary election by a neocon fraud similar to the one I face.
My friend Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) is under heavy pressure as
well. People like our hand-picked opponents will do anything to gain
and keep power. They represent everything that is wrong with DC.
If I am defeated in the upcoming congressional primary, our ideas
will be held to have been defeated as well. It will be proclaimed
from the rooftops in DC that such "ridiculous and outmoded notions"
as the free market, sound money, personal liberty, limited
government, and a pro-American foreign policy are through.
I am determined not to let this happen. All that you and I believe
in is far too important to the future of our country, and to everyone
and everything we love, to let the neocons dance on its grave.
Please, help me stop the lies, the distortions, the pressure groups,
the special interests that benefit from DC rip-offs. There is still
time to run radio and tv ads, to set up phone banks, to get out the
vote. But unless you help, my reelection to Congress may be in
jeopardy. Please help me return to Congress to fight for the people
of my district, and for the ideas that can save our country from the
path to trouble we are now on.
I hesitated to ask you, since you have already done so much. But my
wife Carol said, "When you need help, you ask your best friends." So
I do ask you, to hold out your hand in support.
Please give today http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com, as generously
and as quickly as you can.
Sincerely,
Ron

Paid for by the Committee to Re-Elect Ron Paul
Thank you for your strong support and dedication to Governor Romney and the campaign. We had such great success in so many states because of all your hard work and the efforts of your team of volunteers. As you may have heard, yesterday Governor Romney endorsed Senator John McCain for President of the United States. The Governor and his family thought long and hard about this decision and feel that it is best for the Republican Party to bring the country together and unit behind one candidate. We need to provide our party with the best opportunity to defeat the Democrats in November.
Below are Governor Romney’s remarks from his press conference with Senator John McCain:
[look it up on your own time if you don't already know what he said, I'm saving space here.]
It is time for our party to come together by standing behind Senator John McCain for President in order to keep our country prosperous and strong. Thank you once again for your support of our campaign.
Respectfully yours,
Beth Myers
Campaign Manager, Romney for President, Inc.
Politics Watch Note: This email strikes me as wierd email. After being campaign enemies, Romney doesn't take two seconds to turn around and say "McCain is totally our guy, he can take on all those sissy democrats!" I think that the take home point to me is that Republicans will put their own electoral aspirations aside to have their party hold on to power.
move on heads-up
As of today, we've spent over $495 billion in Iraq.1 With the economy in the tank, think about what that money could do here at home: Cover millions of kids who don't have insurance, or help folks who're losing their jobs and homes.
Instead, it's supporting a failed occupation in Iraq.
More and more Americans are making the connection between the billions we've spent over there and the crumbling economy here at home. In fact, a new AP poll shows that most Americans think ending the war is the best way to help the economy.2 But pundits still talk about the war and the economy as two unrelated things.
That's why we're launching our "Iraq/Recession" campaign—our push to make sure that politicians and pundits understand what voters already know: As long as we keep pouring that money down the drain in Iraq, we won't have the money we need to solve our economic woes.
Can you take a moment to write a letter to the editor of your local paper about how much we're spending in Iraq, while things go south here at home? By speaking out together, we can make sure the cost of war is part of the economic equation. Our tool makes writing a letter easy. Click here to get started:
http://pol.moveon.org/lte?campaign_id=88&id=12164-4820096-fjPrFL&t=83
If thousands of us write, we can get the media to stop ignoring the connection between the war and the recession. The opinion pages are the most widely read pages in the newspaper, so we can also make sure voters—who are growing increasingly concerned about the economy—know that any candidate who wants to stay in Iraq has no plan for the economy.
The ongoing occupation in Iraq is sucking up the resources we need to make our economy work again. The tradeoffs are stark: Bombs or unemployment insurance for people laid off as the economy slows? Billions for Halliburton and Blackwater, or help for people on the verge of losing their homes because of the subprime meltdown? Consider these key facts:
- The recession is going to force states to cut back their budgets. Most likely, the cuts are going to affect the services that working families need and depend on.3
- Meanwhile, the war is costing Americans more than $338 million a day. 4 That money could be spent to help out the folks who're hurting most now. For less than what we're spending on the war, we could pay for affordable housing for hundreds of thousands of families, health care for children, or scholarships to help folks pay for education. 5
- Gas prices are close to double what they were before the war began. The cost of oil is still hovering around $100 barrel. 6
- We're borrowing $343 million every day to finance the war in Iraq. 7 Our skyrocketing debt will be a bigger and bigger drag on the economy—slowing recovery and burdening future generations.
The truth is that economic forecasts are going to continue to be grim as long as we continue to dump billions into a reckless war that has no end in sight. Please write a letter to the editor of your local paper today:
http://pol.moveon.org/lte?campaign_id=88&id=12164-4820096-fjPrFL&t=84

RNC Money Machine
The Republican National Committee is the ONLY GOP organization allowed by federal
law to directly support our presidential nominee after the primaries are over.
With a little less than nine months remaining until Election Day, one thing is absolutely certain: Our 2008 nominee will be up against the largest, most relentless Democrat money machine in history.
Analysts expect the Democrat nominee to raise $500 million for the election -- Senator Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama each raised more than $100 million just last year.
It is critical the RNC be able to give our nominee -- whomever he might be -- the resources to compete against the Democrat money machine from Day One.
Senator Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are turning to their usual special interest allies -- Hollywood elites, Big Labor and MoveOn.org -- to fill their war chests $4,600 at a time.
Please help ensure that the RNC has the funds available to support our next Republican presidential nominee by making a secure online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $25 today.
The RNC relies on grassroots leaders like you to compete, Matt. Contrary to what the national media would have you believe, the average contribution to the RNC is $54. I am quite proud that our base of support comes from smaller donors, but I also know that means we must lay the foundation for Republican victory NOW.
With the future of our country at stake this November, time is of the essence in our drive to elect a Republican successor to President Bush. The generous support of RNC Sustaining Members like you is vital to making sure we succeed.
We need your help to stop the Democrats' plan to push America to the Left. We need your support to block their designs to take complete control of the federal government.
Your secure online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $25 today is a crucial first step in keeping the White House in Republican hands.
Please help the RNC prepare today. Thank you in advance for your continuing commitment to our Party and our cause
Best Wishes,

Dear Matthew,
My name is Chelsea Kammerer, and I'm the Ohio Field Director for the Obama campaign.
After winning 8 straight contests since Super Tuesday, we have momentum on our side. But the race for the Democratic nomination is still extremely close.
The March 4th primary in Ohio is one of the biggest remaining contests for our campaign, and we need supporters across the country to get involved.
Sign up to take a trip to Ohio and help Get Out The Vote for Barack:

As we enter the final stages of this election, both campaigns are focused on the March 4th primaries.
Senator Clinton's campaign has even described Ohio as a "must-win" state, and they're already devoting unprecedented resources to their operation here.
Our campaign has always relied on grassroots supporters to build our movement and spread the word about Barack Obama. Join us in Ohio and keep the momentum going.
No experience is required -- whether you're a first-time volunteer or a seasoned veteran, you'll have the experience of a lifetime organizing for Barack on the ground.

Huckabee won't quit...
We almost did it. For the first hour or so as the Virginia returns came in, we held our breath. The few polls that had come out for Virginia after Super Tuesday showed us down by 25 and 30 points. We finished within single digits of Senator McCain and had we had a few more days to reach voters the results may have been even closer than that.
The path before us is clear: a primary in Wisconsin on Feb. 19 and then four primaries in Texas, Vermont, Rhode Island and Ohio on March 4.
Our challenge moving forward is to redouble our efforts on the ground and raise the money we need to compete. Last evening I explained in my email why I am running for President and what issues I am fighting for. I am also running to give you a voice in the process. To lift up your voice with mine and to tell our Party and our government that we need to do better. We need to think big and fight for our ideas.
Your notes back to me are inspiring:
-"Please keep running & don't get discouraged! You have my vote for as long as you're in the race!"
-"Mike is NOT quitting this fight and neither are we!! And Mike's leadership on the Human Life Amendment...the Marriage Amendment and the FairTax are all well worth fighting for ALL THE WAY TO THE CONVENTION!! It's time to take the battle to Washington and Wisconsin !! Let's "leave it all on the field" and do everything we can to support Mike and win these states!!"
-"Governor Huckabee, I voted for you yesterday in Virginia . While it did not go our way, I stand by you more than ever in this race! I completely support your decision to remain in this race. Keep it up! God Bless! and Go Huckabee!!"
-"You said, this is a marathon, not a sprint. I just have never run a marathon before! So here goes, back to the wallet with another $25 donation so that you know that I'm still behind you 100%. I'm praying for a way for us to "max out" to $4600. I need a day or two for laundry and dishes, but than it is back to the phones. I want good government! I want you for our President!"
-"Mike - please don't give up! You speak for so many of us. Don't let that voice go silent!"
Thank you to everyone for their words of support and encouragement. I am truly humbled by the faith you have placed in me and reinvigorated for the race ahead. I have heard you clearly and we will not stop. We will keep fighting for our ideas and we will push our Party to do better.
To continue I will need your help: identifying new supporters, making get out the vote calls, raising money and much more. Today I am headed to Wisconsin for two days of campaigning. I will email you again very soon.
With deep gratitude,

it ain't over yet McCain
To: Team McCain Re: Wrapping Up the Nomination
Last night, after our strong victories in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC, I put together an analysis of the state of the race for the Republican nomination. Including the delegates won last night, John McCain is now close to securing the number of delegates needed to be the presumptive Republican nominee. In addition, it is now mathematically impossible for Mike Huckabee to win enough delegates to secure the Republican nomination; there simply aren’t enough delegates left at stake for him to win. Take a look at the following chart:
|
Despite the mathematical certainty, the field is not clear on our side and we must continue to wage an aggressive fight in the upcoming states, including Wisconsin, Washington, Ohio, Texas, Vermont and Rhode Island. The sooner we wrap up this nomination fight, the sooner we can unify our party and begin to face the challenge of defeating the democrats in the fall. But we need your help to wage aggressive campaigns in these next primary states - will you make a contribution of $100, $200, $500 or whatever you can afford to help us wrap up the Republican nomination and head in the fight against the Obama and Clinton money machines?
Until John McCain secures 1,191 delegates, we must campaign aggressively for the Republican nomination, and that requires additional resources in some of the most populous states in the country. We cannot turn our attention to the Democrats and their enormous war chests until this nomination is secure, and we cannot accomplish that goal without your additional help.
Thank you for being part of Team McCain, for being with the campaign through thick and thin. We’ve won some exciting contests over the last two months, but the challenge is not over – we must continue to spread John McCain’s conservative message of lowering taxes, strengthening our economy, winning the war in Iraq, and fighting radical Islamic extremists. There is a lot of work ahead, but as John McCain has noted, there has never been an election where the choices between the two parties will be so stark. Please help us right now with your most generous contribution.
Sincerely,
Rick Davis

Pulling out the Dem's military star power
If you don't think John McCain is just as dangerous in the White House as George W. Bush, think again.McCain will not reverse the foreign policy mistakes of George Bush. He is content to leave us in Iraq, saying it'd be "fine by me" if we were in Iraq for another 100 years; he is rash on using military force with Iran. He overplays the military card and doesn't seem to appreciate that the real strength of the nation lies in our economy and in our values.
We have to be sure we have a Congress that will support a Democratic president but also one that, in the event of a John McCain presidency, has enough horsepower to ensure he can't continue the policies of George W. Bush.
We can't just triumph over John McCain in the race for the White House. We must also defeat every Republican senator who supports Bush and McCain and believes in continuing a war that 64% of the American people are vehemently against - people like Norm Coleman in Minnesota, Susan Collins in Maine, and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
The DSCC is working overtime to expand our narrow 51-49 Democratic majority so they can either push through the agenda of a Democratic president or act as a firewall against the radical policies of a President John McCain. And with the GOP consolidating their national efforts now, the DSCC has got to have the support of committed Democrats early and often.

As a military man, I know and respect the use of force.
I also know it's not enough to keep us safe.
But that's not the way John McCain and his acolytes see it. Since 9/11, they have taken the very real threat of terrorism and turned it into a rallying cry for military adventurism. Their paranoia runs so deep that Sen. McCain has now taken to calling Islamic terrorism the "greatest evil ever faced" by the United States.
This nation triumphed over Nazism and Communism once before and I have no doubt that the bin Ladens of the world will eventually rue the day they challenged the United States. But this constant fear mongering and refusal to change course in Iraq is making it more difficult to defeat our enemies.
American troops have done everything that's been asked of them and more in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the Army and Marine Corps are stretched to their breaking point because George Bush has refused to engage in the type of diplomacy that could tamp down hostilities and ease the strain on our military.
And John McCain and any Republican senator who supports his presidential candidacy are offering more of the same. And they have got to go. You can make it happen.
Click here to make a donation of $50, $75 or more to help expand the Democratic Senate majority in 2008.
I have every expectation that America will have a Democrat in the White House next January, and when that happens, I know he or she will begin bringing American troops home from Iraq with honor.
But nothing is for certain in politics. And while Democrats battle to retake the executive branch, we must work just as hard to expand our majorities in the United States Congress.
The DSCC is on the front lines of the fight for the Senate every day. And today, they need you.
Sincerely,
Gen. Wesley Clark
$2.30 for Barack
Barack Obama's Tuesday night victories in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. give him 8 straight wins—and 23 wins across the nation.1 Obama has this big momentum because regular people are rising up and fueling his campaign with energy, hard work, and small-dollar contributions.
To highlight this people-powered movement, we're forming a Facebook group called, "I'm giving $2.30 to Barack Obama." Why $2.30? Every thousand people who join and contribute will equal one big-money donor who gave the legal maximum. We're making clear that Obama's replacing the old politics with fresh, new energy.
Can you join our Facebook group, and contribute $2.30 to Obama today? You can do both by clicking here:

Howard Dean hits hard
Dear matt,
There's a lot being said about the primary process right now. I wanted to reach out to you and let you know how things look from where I stand.
First, I think we'll have a nominee before the convention. It's still early, and there are plenty of voters who still haven't weighed in.
I also think that we're fortunate to have two fantastic candidates that people are excited about -- we've consistently had record turnout across the country, and whoever wins will have the support of a healthy Party that's ready to fight. Hillary and Barack are meeting voters in places that don't typically get to see our candidates so closely, and that's good for both of them come November.
They're both campaigning hard, and it's great to see such excitement for two great candidates -- I'm excited about them, too.
But while our process continues to play out, we can't afford to sit around and wait. We must start right now -- we can't let John McCain get a head start.
While the pundits on TV talk about what it all means, we can get to work. We know who we're up against -- now we need the resources to compete. Make a contribution right now to help us fight back:
http://www.democrats.org/FightMcCain
Don't be fooled, John McCain isn't a "maverick" at all. He's loved by the media, but he'll be a disaster for our country.
He's been a vocal supporter of George Bush's strategy in Iraq, and he's said that he wants to be there for another hundred years. He's committed to appointing judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade and privatizing Social Security. And he's admitted that he doesn't understand the economy, which would leave millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet.
He's so bad that U.S. News and World Report recently revealed that the White House is thrilled to have John McCain picking up where they're leaving off...
What's behind President Bush's expansive praise for John McCain? The president has become convinced that McCain will be an effective and strong defender of the Bush legacy in the general election campaign this fall, White House advisers to U.S. News. [...] In an interview broadcast yesterday on FOX News Sunday, Bush went further than he ever has in analyzing the 2008 presidential race. He came close to endorsing McCain outright, praising him more than he did McCain's competitor in the race, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
[...]White House officials tell U.S. News that Bush is eager to help McCain as the party standard-bearer, mainly in three areas: helping to rally conservatives behind McCain, raising money for the Republican Party, and framing the political debate to portray the Democrats as tax-and-spend liberals who would prematurely remove U.S. troops from Iraq and endanger national security.
John McCain gives George Bush the third term he always wanted. Help us fight back by making a contribution today:
http://www.democrats.org/FightMcCain
Three years ago this week, I became chairman of the DNC. Since then, you've been with me every step of the way as we've rebuilt the Party from the ground up, in all 50 states. You contributed, knocked on doors, made phone calls, and you've done everything you could make our Party and our country better than it was when we started.
Today, we're seeing record turnout in primaries across the country, and we have two historic candidates that we couldn't be happier with. It's because of you -- and all that you've done since the darkest days after our loss in 2004 -- that made this possible. And it's because of you that we're going to beat John McCain in November.
Thanks for everything you've done,
Howard Dean

The Huck-man is still in the game
Every vote counts.
If you do not live someplace casting votes tomorrow, but know family or friends that do, please call them this evening or send them an email and remind them about the importance of this election. I am asking for their vote. If they have any questions about my campaign, encourage them to visit our campaign website at www.mikehuckabee.com. If they do not have internet access, I encourage you to share some of my positions on the issues. To help you do this, I am including a link to a voter guide.
This campaign has always been about the issues and it remains so: the FairTax, real border security, the Human Life and Marriage Amendments, Conservative Judges, strong support for the 2nd Amendment, cutting spending and so much more. I am proud of your support and proud of the team effort we are a part of.
Thank you again and you can expect an email from me very soon.
With deep gratitude,

PS We will still have calls available in Maryland and Virginia tomorrow. Our goal is to make 10-15,000 additional calls into Maryland and finish our Virginia calls. We will need your help to do so. Over the last two days we have made over 43,000 calls to Virginia voters thanks to the personal sacrifices of over 2,200 Rangers.
To make calls:
If you are a Ranger click here to get started.
If you are not a Ranger click here to signup.
After you signup a verification email will be sent to you. After you verify your account, you will login to your Dashboard. Look for "Phone bank" under My Profile and begin to make calls. We provide scripts for you and important talking points to use with voters. Over 1,500 Rangers made 28,000 calls into Kansas before our Caucus win there. These calls are important and effective.
_______The first question I am often asked these days is: "Why are you still running for President?"
It is because I believe that I am the best candidate to represent you in the fall against the Democrats. Why? Because I have core conservative beliefs that I have never wavered from:
I believe in the Human Life Amendment and I will fight for it from Day 1 of my Presidency.
I believe in the Marriage Amendment.
I believe in massive tax reform and am an advocate of the FairTax.
I believe that President Bush's tax cuts should be made permanent.
I believe in the Surge, our troops and General Petraeus.
I believe the 2nd amendment is one of the best ways to protect us from tyranny and I will work tirelessly to protect it from activist judges.
I believe in real border security and have proposed a detailed 9 point plan to secure our borders.
I believe the best judge is a conservative judge that won't legislate from the bench.
These are some of the reasons why I am running for President and let me also say that YOU are another reason. I am running to give you a voice in the process. To lift up your voice with mine and to tell our Party and our government that we need to do better. We need to think big and fight for our ideas.
There’s lots of voting left to be done before our Republican Party’s nominee is decided. Tonight, I ask that you help our campaign prepare for the race ahead with a contribution of $25 or more.
We have important states to fight for in the coming days: Wisconsin, Washington, Texas and Ohio to name a few. Unlike the last few states, we have time to build our base of support in each of these states, contact new voters and prepare to turnout the vote. Wisconsin and Washington vote on Feb. 19. Texas and Ohio on March 4.
Help us finish strong.
With deep gratitude,

"A Big Night"
Matthew --
Thanks to you, Barack won all three of today's contests decisively.
Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC join a sweep of eight straight victories since Barack won the most states and the most delegates on Super Tuesday.
But the race for the Democratic nomination remains close. It's going to be a fight for every vote and every delegate in the remaining 18 contests.
Each of us needs to take responsibility for getting as many people involved in this campaign as possible.
More than 400,000 people have donated to this campaign in 2008, and we are on course to reach half-a-million donors before the crucial March 4th primaries and caucuses.
If you make a donation of $25 now, you'll match the gift of a first-time donor.
Encourage a fellow supporter to step up and own a piece of this campaign -- make a matching donation now and double your impact:
https://donate.barackobama.com/promise
The upcoming contests in Wisconsin, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will demand energy and resources on an unprecedented scale.
It's going to take all of us to keep these victories going. But if anyone is up to the task, it's this movement.
Thanks for your support,
David

Huckabee could come back...
It was a Super Saturday. A big win in the Kansas Caucus, a popular vote win in Lousiana's primary and in Washington the vote is still undecided even though many news outlets have projected Sen. McCain as the winner. We are committed to making certain every vote in Washington is counted, and you can expect me to update you on the situtation soon.
Now let's focus on Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Every vote is critical. Each and every vote. Let Washington be a lesson to us all, please contact everyone you know in these two states in the District of the Columbia and ask them to consider voting for our campaign. Make a list of the people you know living there and contact them today. But don't stop there. Contacting friends and family outside of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia is just as important, because they might have connections to voters in these primaries.
Please help us make calls into Virginia today. We have 40,000 calls to go. Contacting each of these voters is critical to our success on Tuesday. Helping identify pro-Huckabee voters will give us the opportunity to remind these voters to get to the polls on Tuesday and VOTE HUCKABEE!
Lets look at the recent results for our online, volunteer phone program and the successes we have had:
Kansas: Made 28,000 Calls and We Won.
Georgia: Made 40,000 calls and We Won.
Alabama: Made 20,000 Calls and We Won.
Tennessee: Made 15,000 Calls and We Won.
So will you help us make the remaining 40,000 calls into Virginia? Are there 10,000 individuals willing to call a minimum of 4 voters each? Making these calls will take about 5 minutes of your time today.
To make calls you must be a Ranger (membership is free). Signup is easy. We provide scripts and voter records to call. Click here to signup and join the Rangers.
If you are already a Ranger click here to get started.
No one likes to make calls, but I can tell you they work. And for each call we make as a team today and tomorrow, I will try and keep pace by shaking as many hands of Virginia voters as I crisscross the state campaigning. Chip Saltsman my campaign manager is joking now that we will have to bring a cooler of ice-packs to keep the swelling down. If that is the case, my swollen hand is going to be a real badge of honor.
I am so proud of our team.
Lets go after this together.
With deep gratitude,

MoveOn makes a funny video
If you liked the "Yes We Can" video that we sent around last week, you should check out this new video that popped up on YouTube this morning. It's a humorous parody of "Yes We Can"—but about John McCain and how he'd continue Bush's disastrous Iraq policies.
It's only been up a couple hours, and already thousands of people have viewed it. If you think it's funny, please pass it on. If enough of us do, we can make it rise to the top of the YouTube rankings so even more people see it. Here's the video:
There is some mild profanity at one point in the video. We want you to know, in case you don't want to watch. The reason we're sending this video to you is because it does a good job holding McCain accountable for his consistent war-mongering, and shows quite clearly how out-of-touch with the American people he is on the issue of Iraq.
Here's the link to the video:

P.S. You may also want to send your friends last week's "Yes We Can" video, which this new video is based on. It was made independently by Bob Dylan's son, director Jesse Dylan, and musician will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. | Dear matthew,
In all the hubbub, you might have missed Senate Democrats defeating the roadblock Republicans in the Senate - Republicans who were trying to derail an economic stimulus package that will help over 130 million households. Radical right-wing Republicans opposed adding rebates for seniors and disabled veterans but Democrats overcame their obstruction and pushed through a bill that will help millions. Two of those roadblock Republicans, John Sununu and Mitch McConnell, deserve special attention for their craven votes last week. New Hampshire: What Republicans Call Moderation Sen. John Sununu loves to call himself a moderate Republican. Frankly, it's the only way he can get elected in a blue state like New Hampshire. The only problem is that it's just not true. Would a real moderate Republican cast the deciding vote in the Senate against extending unemployment benefits and against increased federal assistance for sky-high home heating bills? I don't think so. Yet that's exactly what Sununu did on Wednesday when Senate Democrats tried to include these important provisions in their economic stimulus package. Turns out Republicans in Washington don't actually like helping out the middle class. And John Sununu is ready to do whatever they say. We have a very strong candidate in New Hampshire in former Governor Jeanne Shaheen. I know we have a real opportunity to defeat Sununu and his right-wing brand of "moderation" in November. Kentucky: Mitch McConnell's Sabotage And who was the one pulling Sununu's strings? If you believe his hometown newspaper, it was none other than our least favorite minority leader, Mitch McConnell. Calling his actions "sabotage" in a Friday editorial, the Louisville Courier-Journal details exactly how McConnell obstructed Democratic efforts that would have given more help to seniors and disabled vets. Here's my favorite part:
You'd think that McConnell would have learned the importance of funding for disabled vets after the Walter Reed scandal was exposed exactly one year ago today. You'd be wrong. It's bad news for any sitting senator when in-state newspapers are calling you out for obstructing progress. But when your poll numbers are as low as McConnell's and there are a number of qualified candidates ready to take you on in November, that could be the precursor to disaster. I can't wait. Click here to read the Louisville Courier-Journal editorial calling out Mitch McConnell for sabotaging the Democratic economic stimulus package. Colorado: Bob Schaffer, R-Big Oil Judging by the Bush administration's tepid response to the global warming crisis, I'd say that Big Oil has just about enough representation in Washington, thank you very much. But that's not stopping them from trying to send former Congressman Bob Schaffer back to Washington as Colorado's next senator. During his time in the House, Schaffer was rewarded for his role in passing Dick Cheney's energy plan with more than $75,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry. After he left Congress, there was a plush corner office waiting at Aspect Energy. Now he wants to go to the Senate, so he can continue his life-long opposition to increasing fuel efficiency and decreasing emissions for cars and trucks. It's no wonder that the League of Conservation Voters has named Schaffer one of their 2008 "Dirty Dozen" based on his long and consistent anti-environmental record. This is no list I'd want to be on. Looks like Big Oil better keep the cushy chair open in that corner office. If we do our job and make sure Colorado voters know his real record, Bob Schaffer sure won't be headed back to Washington. Click here to read more about Bob Schaffer's anti-environment, pro-Big Oil record. New Mexico: Republican Infighting In 2006, I saw first-hand the destructive role a group called the Club for Growth (CFG) can have on a Republican primary. The CFG is known for their "tax cuts for millionaires" brand of economic policy and for entering races with guns blazing and mudslinging. Last cycle the CFG's destructive political tactics backfired on guys like Steven Laffey and George Allen. Now CFG has endorsed Republican Congressman Steve Pearce over Congresswoman Heather Wilson, because they apparently like Pearce's heartless opposition to increasing the minimum wage and to expanding health care for kids. CFG's endorsement means plenty of campaign cash and TV ads that will only expose the worst of the Republican Party. While the Republican primary turns bloody, the Democratic Party is rallying behind Congressman Tom Udall whose positive campaign is cutting through the GOP's bickering. Click here to read more about how Club for Growth's endorsement will impact the race in New Mexico. Georgia: Paybacks Six years ago, Saxby Chambliss won a Senate seat for all the wrong reasons. Now, I think we just might have the opportunity to beat him in November. And we both know what they always say about paybacks. Remember, incumbent Senator Max Cleland was a decorated war hero - a triple amputee - and here were Georgia Republicans smearing his patriotism and equating him with Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. It just the most disgusting campaign tactic I've seen in 20 years in politics. The latest Zogby polling numbers are startling. 49% of respondents say they want new representation in Washington, and only 38% say Chambliss deserves another term. For what we call "re-elect numbers" like this, anything below 50% is huge trouble for a sitting senator. This is another race I'll be watching closely, and if the opportunity presents itself, I'll make certain that the DSCC does everything it can to win this seat. Sincerely, ![]() J.B. Poersch P.S. There is so much energy and so much momentum for Senate races in so many states. I don't want to have to choose which ones we go after in November. Can I count on your support to make sure that we can win every seat that can be won? Click here to make an immediate, secure contribution of $50, $75, or more. |
GOP emails.
Dear Matt,
We at the RNC took a short time out from the exciting primary schedule to prepare a special Valentine's Day surprise at www.GOPValentine.com. Senators Clinton and Obama continue to fight tooth and nail for their party's nomination, but their messages of higher taxes, bigger government, and weakened national defense sound just the same to us.
You can preview all six Valentine's Day cards below and send them to your friends and family by clicking here.
Please share these cards with your family, friends, and favorite Republicans to remind them of what the Democrat candidates really stand for and why they shouldn't be anyone's sweetheart.
Happy Valentine's Day,

Hillary
You may have noticed my lack of Hillary emails. I wish within my heart of hearts she genuinely cared about me, but both my dummy mailbox and my gmail account are not good enough for her campaign notifications. I just sent out another request to be put on the mailing list, but who knows? She might fold before I even see an email.
Unfortunately, Obama, Ron Paul, and Huckabee seem to be the only candidates who really enjoy sending out emails more than once in a fortnight.
from what I've read, hillary is gunning for a Dem civil war over a lost nomination
riend --
We just learned that we won all three contests today -- in Louisiana, Nebraska, and Washington State.
We've now won 18 out of 28 states, with New Mexico still in the balance.
What's more, we also estimate that we at least doubled our delegate lead today.
Our momentum is strong, but another round of tough contests is about to begin.
Tomorrow, Democrats will caucus in Maine. And on Tuesday, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia will have their turn.
To win, we need to bring as many people into the process as possible. We're pushing towards 500,000 donors this year by March 4th, when Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont vote.
Now is the time to make your first online donation -- if you do, it will be matched by another supporter, doubling your impact:
https://donate.barackobama.com
This race is still extremely close, and we need your support to remain competitive.
Thank you for making this possible.
Barack
Can he pick up the remorseful buyers?
Today's big Kansas Caucus win reaffirms that we are working hard for the nomination.
I'm delighted that the good people of Kansas honored me with their vote. They, like people in 26 other states who were not part of Super Tuesday, deserve to have their voice heard -- and I am grateful for their support.
The voters of Kansas spoke today and said loudly and clearly that I am the authentic conservative in the race.
It was a big win that would not have been possible without your support. Over 1,500 Rangers made 28,000 calls into Kansas contacting supporters and turning them out to vote. Thank you!
Now lets turn our focus towards the Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia as we head into the Potomac primaries on Tuesday.
Here is what I need from you this afternoon:
1. Make lists of everyone you know in these states and send them an email asking them to vote for our campaign. If they are undecided please tell them to visit our campaign website to learn more about the issues we are fighting for and the kind of grassroots team we have assembled.
If you don't know anyone living in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia please email or phone people you know nationwide that support my campaign and ask them to get more involved. We need more volunteers, new contributors, and new supporters. Friends contacting friends and convincing them to participate is the secret to our success.
2. If you are a Ranger please email your friends and family and ask them to contribute towards the amount you pledged to raise. If you have already raised what you pledged, please consider boosting your goal. Rangers helped raise over $168,000 since Tuesday, but to compete effectively, over the next days we will need to double and triple that amount.
If you aren't a Ranger please consider signing up today.
3. Make an immediate contribution of $25 or more today. I’m headed into a meeting with my campaign team now to review our resources and determine just what we need to propel our efforts in these next key states. I’ll drop you a note later today with a summary of our discussion. In the meantime, if at all possible, please make an immediate contribution today.
Our win today in Kansas was important. We are stronger, faster and most important, we are together.
With deep gratitude,

RNC POSTS NEW WEB VIDEO: "PROTECT AMERICA ALERT"
Today the RNC released a new web video, titled "Protect America Alert." The video highlights Congressional Democrats' failure to permanently update America's 30-year-old terrorist surveillance law, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). In 2007, Senators Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Harry Reid all voted against providing our nation's intelligence community with the vital tools it needs to track and fight potential terrorists.
"Protect America Alert" can be viewed by clicking here.
Sincerely,
RNC eCampaign
Mike uses Colbert report to stay in the game, and this...
Yesterday, Mitt Romney announced that he will no longer seek the Republican nomination for President. I wish Mitt and his family all the best.
Over the past year, Mitt and his entire family have sacrificed a lot during the course of his campaign and for that, we should all be appreciative of their service and dedication.
This is a two-man race for the nomination, and I am committed to marching on. I believe in the importance of a strong national defense -- which includes winning the war against Islamic extremists and the protection of American sovereignty.
I am redoubled in my resolve to carry on my campaign in a civil, dignified manner. The issues that got me into this campaign—protecting life and traditional marriage, defending the 2nd amendment, enacting the FairTax and real border security are going to keep me in this campaign.
Our first real test together will be to raise the money we need to fund our campaign plan for the primaries and caucuses tomorrow in Washington, Louisiana, Kansas and next Tuesday District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. Since Gov. Romney dropped out late yesterday afternoon we have raised over $195,000 online including first time donations from over 1,300 people. We need to keep up this pace. Our goal is to raise an additional $1,000,000 by Tuesday and we are still $600,000 away from our goal.
Will you make an immediate contribution of $25 or more to our campaign?
If you have already contributed today please find someone else to match your gift. We are working to recruit 4,000 - 5,000 new first time contributors before next Tuesday. Will you encourage your friends and family to match your contribution? Their support is as important to our campaign as your own.
To help motivate everyone, I will personally call and thank the volunteer that makes the most calls to voters using our online phone bank tool. Will you help? Will you make calls? To learn more about this click here.
As a true authentic, consistent, conservative, I have a vision that will bring hope, opportunity and prosperity to all Americans. We can win. We will win.
I am counting on you as I always have, because you are the five smooth stones in my pocket.
With the deepest gratitude,

Barack raises mad cash moneyz
Friend --
I was writing a note to you about the state of the race after Super Tuesday when we got some startling news.
The Clinton campaign just announced that Hillary and Bill Clinton injected $5 million of their personal fortune into her campaign a few days ago.
This is a dramatic move, and a clear acknowledgement that our campaign has the momentum. We saw undeniable evidence of that last night as the results came in.
Barack Obama won the most states and the most delegates on February 5th.
We have gotten to this point thanks to an unprecedented outpouring of support from ordinary Americans.
To date, more than 650,000 people like you have taken ownership of this campaign, giving whatever they can afford.
The Clinton infusion of $5 million -- and there are reports it could end up being as much as $20 million -- will give them huge resources for the next set of primaries and caucuses.
Thanks to you, we have raised more than $3 million since the polls closed on February 5th. But we have no choice -- we must match their $5 million right now.
We're going to do it the right way, with small donations from people like you. It's never been more urgent that you make a donation of $25 right now:
https://donate.barackobama.com
Just two weeks ago we were behind by double-digits in many of the states that voted yesterday, but Barack won 13 states to 8 states for Hillary Clinton, with one state (New Mexico) still counting votes.
This is an enormous victory, and it's all thanks to you.
We won yesterday because thousands upon thousands of individual supporters canvassed their neighborhoods, talked to their neighbors and friends, and made phone calls to remind their fellow supporters to get out the vote.
And we accomplished all of this with a campaign funded by ordinary people giving only what they can afford.
Yesterday was proof that America is ready for change -- and that you are the force to make that change happen.
But there's still a long way to go before Barack becomes the Democratic nominee. In the next week alone, six more states will hold their primaries and caucuses.
We need to match this $5 million personal contribution from the Clintons immediately and put these resources to work in the states that will vote next.
Please make a donation of $25 now:
https://donate.barackobama.com
Here are some details about yesterday's historic victory. According to official results and exit polls:
Barack won 2-to-1 in traditionally conservative states where Democrats are hungry for a nominee who can change the map and help Democrats up and down the ticket win in November
Our winning coalition included Americans of every race, background, and gender -- including 64% of women in Georgia
We scored wins in every region of the country -- New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the South, the Midwest, the Rocky Mountain states, and the West
Americans had a clear choice to make yesterday, and they chose Barack Obama.
Now let's match this $5 million and take this campaign into the next stage.
Thank you,
David

Obama for America
Friend -- As of this afternoon, more than 300,000 people have given in 2008 alone, taking ownership of this campaign by making a donation of whatever they can afford. This has never happened before. No one has ever built a campaign involving so many Americans as true stakeholders. It speaks volumes not only about the kind of campaign we're running, but also about how we want politics to be. So many of us have been waiting so long for the time when we could finally expect more from our politics, when we could give more of ourselves and feel truly invested in something bigger than a particular candidate or cause. This is it. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. We won the most states and the most delegates on Tuesday because a movement of people decided to take back the political process and participate in unprecedented numbers. Today we set a new goal: 500,000 people giving to our campaign this year by March 4th. It's time to take the next step. Please make your first donation now: https://donate.barackobama.com When you do, one of the 300,000 people who have already given this year will match your donation. You'll see the name and town of the person matching your gift, and you'll even be able to send them a note about why you took the leap. This has been a remarkable week already, but we are entering what could be a decisive phase of the campaign. We face contests in Nebraska, Washington State, and Louisiana on Saturday. Maine will go on Sunday. And Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. will vote on Tuesday. It's going to take every one of us reaching out, organizing, and giving our all to make it happen. As we headed into the Iowa caucuses, it had taken us nearly a year to reach our first 500,000 donors. Now, with your help, we will be able to repeat that feat in a little over 60 days as we head into Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont on March 4th. So many people said we would never get here. But we're proving every day that ordinary people can still accomplish extraordinary things. Thank you, BarackOne of the things I'm most proud of about our campaign is not the amount of money we've raised, but the number of people giving it.
Mike is still in.
[note: I skipped over a few small emails from Huck and Obama so I can catch up.]
What a day! Thanks to the hard and tireless work of tens of thousands of supporters nationwide we scored terrific victories last night. You made calls, you sent emails, you wrote letters and waved signs and because of you we won: West Virginia, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia and we came oh so very close in Missouri and Oklahoma.
Let’s celebrate a bit this morning, but we must now quickly shift our focus to the next states casting votes: Louisiana, Washington, Kansas, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Our campaign is already competitive in each of these states but we need to drive our momentum there and begin contacting voters immediately. Kansas, Louisiana and Washington all cast votes on Saturday and The "Chesapeake Primary" (DC, MD and VA) is next Tuesday.
Here is what I need from you this morning:
1. Make lists of everyone you know in these states and send them an email asking them to vote for our campaign. If they are undecided please tell them to visit our campaign website to learn more about the issues we are fighting for and the kind of grassroots team we have assembled.
If you don't know anyone living in DC, MD, VA, KS, WA and LA, please email or phone people you know that support my campaign and ask them to get more involved.
Rangers helped raise over $200,000 over the last 6 days, but to compete effectively, over the next days we will need to double and triple that amount.
If you aren't a Ranger please consider signing up today. Rangers help raise funds for our campaign and helped place over 100,000 voter contact calls for our campaign to voters in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.
The second half of this marathon race has begun. We are stronger, faster and most important, we are together.
With deep gratitude,

When Michelle and I talked about my running for president, one of the core goals we both had for this campaign was to leave the political process better off than we found it.
You have challenged conventional thinking and built a grassroots movement for change that is sweeping this country.
I have no doubt that the election tomorrow will be close, but you can help ensure that as many people as possible participate.

Thank you for being part of this,

Friend -- The votes will be counted into the night and into tomorrow, but today we won states and we won delegates in every part of the country. As of right now, we have won more states and delegates than Senator Clinton. It's a remarkable achievement we can all be proud of. Tonight, we know one thing for sure -- our time has come, our movement is real, and change is coming to America. At this moment in history, the stakes are too high and the challenges too great to play the same Washington game with the same Washington players and expect a different result. This time must be different. There will be those who say it cannot be done. But we know what we have seen and what we believe -- that when ordinary people come together we can still do extraordinary things. Yes, we can. Thank you so much, Barack
Mitt's Out
Dear john,

If you have not heard by now, I have decided to suspend my campaign for president. This was not an easy decision for me, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support from the beginning to the point where we are today. We’ve come such a long way, and our hard work together will leave an imprint on the course of history.
As I addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) yesterday in Washington, D.C., I outlined what I know is the right course ahead for our nation – a course based on conservative principles such as individual responsibility, strong faith and values, economic strength with lower taxes and a national defense that will not retreat from the threat of evil extremism.
I disagree with Senator McCain on a number of issues, as you know. But I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Osama bin Laden, and on eliminating Al Qaeda and terror. If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding surrender to terror.
This is not an easy decision for me. I hate to lose. My family, my friends and, you, our supporters, have given a great deal to get me where I have a shot at becoming President. If this were only about me, I would go on. But I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, I feel I must now stand aside, for our party and for our country.
You can be sure I will continue to stand for conservative principles. I will fight alongside you for all the things we believe in. And one of those things is that we cannot allow the next President of the United States to retreat in the face evil extremism.
It is the common task of each generation – and the burden of liberty – to preserve this country, expand its freedoms and renew its spirit so that its noble past is prologue to its glorious future.
Please stand proud today that you fought for a cause greater than yourself, and please continue to fight to preserve our ideals.
Thank you again so very much.
Ron soldiers on.
ttention all Michigan Ron Paul supporters:
NOW IS THE TIME TO WIN MICHIGAN.
Romney has just dropped out, which means THE DELEGATES WILL BE UN-BOUND. The Michigan delegates at the national convention may all vote for Paul--if we get the right people to the national convention.
Tonight is the county convention for your county. EVERY RON PAUL SUPPORTER MUST ATTEND. They will be ill-attended as the prevailing false belief is that McCain has won the nomination. And most Republicans don't even like McCain.
Precinct delegates probably won't even show up.
IF you go to the county convention, and if you are a Republican, you CAN be elected by the company present to fill vacancies to the state convention and THERE WILL BE VACANCIES.
Many county conventions are listed at http://www.migop.org/upcoming_events.asp if you aren't sure where your's is. Just about all of them take place at 7:30 pm, but call your county GOP and double-check: http://migop.org/directory/default.asp
Wear a coat and tie, sit quietly while the GOP officials and precinct delegates vote who to send to the state convention (write down who they are), and if there are any open seats, rise and ask that you be elected to represent your county at the state convention. The state convention is Saturday night and Sunday morning in Lansing.
This is very short notice. NOW is the time to act. Log in on the Precinct Leader program at https://voters.ronpaul2008.com and call every Ron Paul Precinct Leader in your county. Rush them to action. Get all of them to the convention. Get every Ron Paul supporter to your county convention. If you support Ron Paul, there is nothing more important than this. Clear your schedule. Postpone the meeting. This is the critical hour.
There will be a brief conference call at 6pm tonight to answer your questions. Phone number 605-475-6000, access code 798-426.
Do we have a frontrunner yet?
| Dear McCain Supporter, What a night! We are still tallying up the delegates but the votes are in and it looks to be a very big night for John McCain. From New York in the east to California on the west coast, we won some of the biggest states in the country. We over-performed, beat expectations among most groups, and saw a record number of the voters come out to support John McCain. We won big in both states with lots of delegates and in historic battleground states, defying pundits and reasserting the views of those that really pick presidents - voters. All across the country, we saw Americans come out and vote for leadership. And they voted for John McCain. The battle does not end here. We have many more states to win and committed opponents who are not giving up any time soon, despite John McCain's significant lead. We can't afford to rest for one second and must compete to win, and fast. The faster John McCain secures victory, the more time we'll have to prepare to take on the Democrats in November. We need your help to keep the momentum going. Please make an immediate online contribution today to make sure we have the resources necessary to secure the nomination, fast. In the next few days there are contests in Kansas and Washington State. Next Tuesday we have the 'Chesapeake Primary' with Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. all holding their primaries on the same day. These are critical contests that we need to win. And we need your help. Please make a contribution today and then forward this message on to at least 10 people you know and encourage them to do the same. We know that John McCain is the only candidate who is prepared to lead on day one and is the only Republican that has a chance of beating Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama in November. We are counting on your support at this critical time to help make sure we have the resources and support necessary to win. Thank you again for all your support over this past year. It has been a long journey and now that we are getting close to the finish line, it is not the time to slow down - we have to sprint to the finish. Many thanks, P.S. Donate now to help keep this momentum going. And just as importantly, you can help build our growing team by sending this letter to ten of your friends and family to tell them why you are supporting the next President of the United States, John McCain! |
Rudy's Recommendation
In the past, I know I could count on you to be a strong supporter. Together, we ran an honorable campaign, based on issues like tax cuts and keeping America on offense against radical Islamic terrorism. Together, we were able to make an impact on the American political landscape. We can be proud of all we accomplished.
I have often said that had I not entered the race, there is one candidate who would have my complete support. I am proud to endorse my dear friend - an American hero - Senator John McCain.
Help John to the finish line! Your gift of $10, $25, $50 or $100 will give John McCain the tools necessary to capture the Republican nomination on February 5th.
As our next President, John McCain will be ready from day one to lead our nation. John McCain understands the challenges we face both here and abroad. Whether it's the need to stay on the offense in the Terrorist's War against us or the desperate need to cut wasteful spending in Washington, John McCain will get it done.
John McCain and I share a similar vision for the challenges facing our nation and our party. John is the only Republican candidate who can run a campaign in all 50 states and who can break through the "Red State / Blue State" divide in modern American politics.
With your help, I am hopeful that we can secure John McCain's nomination very soon so we can unite the Republican Party, and then begin the process of uniting our nation.
On to Victory!
Sincerely,

Rudy Giuliani
Ron Paul's Aniversary
February 4, 2008
Dear friend,
Wow. What an anniversary present you gave us with all your wonderful donations! Ron and I can't thank you enough. Someone asked me where we would have our special dinner, and I said with box lunches on the airplane. When I saw the person's face fall, I said that I couldn't imagine a more wonderful event--with Ron, and fighting for our country's freedom. What could be better? Then more than 2,000 people came to help us celebrate on February 1st in Denver, and they stood up and cheered every sentence out of his mouth. You know, sometimes I have wondered if there was enough love of liberty left in America. I wonder no longer. We can do it!
With all my thanks,
Carol
I guess I was too late for Mitt...
Dear john,
The future of the Republican Party is at stake tomorrow, and we need your help.
It has become increasingly clear that Governor Mitt Romney is the only candidate who can unite the nation without compromising true conservative principles. Conservative pundits like Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity, elected officials, and voters like you are all rallying to his side.
On Saturday, he won the support of Maine’s conservative Republican voters at their caucuses, beating Senator John McCain by double digits – despite the fact that McCain was supported by some key elected officials there. And today, the latest polls show him leading in the California Republican primary.
The momentum is on our side as we head into Super Tuesday. Governor Romney has won four states and has come in second in three. Consistently, in state after state, Governor Romney has rallied and won the support of conservative and self-identified Republican voters.
Now it’s the time to push Governor Romney over the top, as 21 states vote tomorrow, Super Tuesday, February 5. Please help in one or both of these ways: 1) Participate in the innovative Call at Home program, calling key voters to turn them out on Super Tuesday. Just email "I want to win" to CallatHome@MittRomney.com to get started, and 2) Contribute to fund Governor Romney’s Super Tuesday efforts.
Thank you for your continued support.
Off to the races….

P.S. Please email CallatHome@MittRomney.com to make calls today to Super Tuesday voters, and make a contribution to ensure Governor Romney has the support for victory!

Obama speaks
I wish I had the time to post every email I get, but alas I got behind so I skipped the last few emails from mike huckabee and obama in january. I hope to pick up the slack soon.
And disclosure: Obama is now my guy, as Edwards has dropped out.
Friend --
With extremely close races shaping up in states across the country, we need to win every delegate we can this Tuesday, February 5th.
It's time to put an end to the say-anything-to-win politics of the past. Together we can face the challenges of the future with a new kind of politics and a new kind of leadership.
You have built an unprecedented grassroots network for Barack -- for the first time in a very long time, every state, every delegate, and every vote will count.
22 states are holding primaries and caucuses this Tuesday, February 5th. You can help Get Out The Vote by making calls to Obama supporters in these states from your own home.

Now is the time to turn all of the energy and hope you've invested in this campaign into action.

Huck
When I look at Super Tuesday, I see a number of key Southern states, and other strong conservative states, that are likely to add to our delegate count and put us on the right track towards winning the Republican nomination.
I am optimistic about our chances and the path forward seems clear.
I am also looking forward to a healthy and constructive debate at the Reagan Library tonight as we discuss the issues that will define our Party and America's future.
I said this yesterday, and I meant it, if the Republican nominee cannot relate to Republican voters on important issues such as border security, anxiety over the economy and is not an unwavering advocate for the family, the sanctity of life than we will not defeat the Democrats in the fall.
If the Republican nominee appears out of touch with regular voters or has cast votes that were an anathema to his Party, that candidate will fail to unite the Republican Party against the Democrat nominee, no matter who that Democrat nominee is.
We have a long way to go in this nominating process. When you look at what we have done, with what we have, it's a remarkable story that is not even close to being over. In fact, we like to believe we're just really getting started. I'm convinced that my optimistic message of hope and change will continue to resonate with voters as we head into Super Tuesday.
That said, we need to pick up the speed. Slow and steady wins the race more often than not, but sometimes you need to open things up and go full throttle.
After you contribute please find one other person to match your level of support. Our goal is simple: $1,000,000 raised by Monday at midnight. This money will be invested in our voter contact efforts, new television advertising and our field operations in the Super Tuesday states.
Lets get this done, working together, as we always have.
With the deepest gratitude,

Mike Huckabee self-defeating or rising above douchebag politics?
Sean Hannity: "I'll tell you right now, and I've not announced this, but I will be voting for Mitt Romney in this campaign. It's the first time I've stated it publicly. I'll state it now." ("Sean Hannity Radio Show," 1/31/08.
Well I have to admit I am very disappointed by this statement even though I am not surprised. That said, statements like this personally motivate me even more. If you feel as I do I encourage you to commit to doing these three things by Super Tuesday:
1. Make a contribution of $25 or more in support of Mike Huckabee between now and Super Tuesday.
3. Call your friends and family in Super Tuesday states and ask them to vote for Mike.
If you are willing to do all three for Mike before Super Tuesday, please leave a comment on our campaign blog and encourage others to do the same. I will email you again soon about our new television advertising buy.

Ron Paul is prolific
February 1, 2008
Dear Friends,
Ron and I are so honored that you all are contributing to the campaign in honor of our 51st wedding anniversary. That is very special.
We are celebrating our special day as we travel from the California debate to Seattle, Washington and Denver, Colorado for the cause of liberty. We are not giving up our day but sharing it with the voters as you are sharing the fruits of your labor for freedom. Ron says "Freedom works!!" and I believe it does.
Thanks again for your support in prayers, letters and donations. Here are two letters I've received so far that really touched the hearts of me and Ron:
Shellie Singleton from Hampstead, NC says:
"We love you, we treasure you, and we revere you. For the first time ever, my family has finally realized that we are not alone in our desire for the government of the founders. Thank you for bringing so many believers in liberty and freedom together. What an amazing feeling it is to belong to a true revolution, what an awesome responsibility! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!"
Colin Mahon from North Ridgeville, OH writes:
"The two of you may never fully understand how many lives you have touched and changed. I now have great hope for my daughter as I now feel I am making a difference in her world. I went from a disenfranchised, non-voting, angry American citizen that had lost all hope for our country to a political activist in the last 6 months. Thank you for your honesty, integrity and patriotism. You did more than cure my apathy, the two of you saved my life."
We wish we could thank each one of you individually but maybe one day our paths will cross and we will do just that. Ron is so sorry that he could not make it to every event that you have worked hard and planned for. I wish for a few more hours in the day, but since that is not an option we make do with what we are given.
With love to all our wonderful supporters,
Carol Paul
Another way to help elect Ron Paul
February 2, 2008
Loyal Ron Paul supporters,
Here is another way you can help Ron Paul continue to defend freedom
and keep the movement alive. Under Texas law Ron Paul can run for
President and Congress at the same time and he is doing just that. If
you have already given to help elect Ron Paul President, you can also
help him by giving to his reelection campaign to Congress. Go to his
congressional web site starting TODAY and donate to make sure Ron
also wins his reelection campaign for Congress. Let's help reelect
Ron to Congress and elect him President at the same time. Let the
Establishment know that the movement will continue, whether in
Congress or in the White House. The Texas Primary election is March
4, so time is short for Ron to fund this campaign.
Our goal is to raise $400,000 for Ron's congressional campaign within
the next week or two. Early voting starts in Texas soon and Ron's
congressional campaign needs the money TODAY to pay for TV and radio
and mailings.
Federal election laws make it impossible for Congressman Paul to use
any of his presidential funds for his congressional race so long as
he remains a candidate for president. That creates a real problem
because as long as Ron Paul continues to have success running for
President, he will have a hard time securing funds for his
congressional reelection.
So get online now at http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com and make your
maximum donation. Watch the donation counter soar to help keep the
Revolution alive. And send this email alert to all of your friends
and contacts.
Let's show Ron Paul exactly how much we love, appreciate and support him.
Yours for Freedom,
Mark Elam

did I sign up for too much Ron Paul mail?
January 31, 2008
We know that many of you already are aware that Friday is Ron and Carol's 51st wedding anniversary. We thought now might be a nice time to share a little bit of their wedding story, from the words of Carol Paul.
"I actually came into the picture about 1952 when Ron was my escort to my 16th birthday party. Don't tell anyone - but I asked him... actually my birthday is February 29th and it was a Sadie Hawkins-type party where the girls asked the boys... and I asked him.
...
"We went away to college (different colleges in different states), but always kept in touch. On February 1, 1957, we married in an all-white wedding with the bridesmaids carrying armloads of red roses. The flower girl wore a white dress and sprinkled rose petals down the aisle. A fraternity brother of Ron's sang "The Wedding Prayer" and the "Lord's Prayer." Both are very special to us, even today.
"We spent his last semester in college married, and living on the third floor of an old home in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. For one year Ron was manager of the college coffee shop called "The Bullet Hole." He worked as steward and house manager for his fraternity, and had a small scholastic scholarship to help finance his way through college.
You can read more about Ron and Carol's life story in her article, "The American Dream," on our website.
For those of you who will be contributing on Friday in honor of Ron and Carol's many loving years together, we've included an added bonus: Everyone who contributes at least $201 (since Friday is, after all, 2/01) will get to write a personalized anniversary message to Ron and Carol!
In the coming days, we'll display some of these messages on our website, and we're also going to present every one of them, along with your names, as a gift to Ron and Carol!
Thank you in advance for your help in giving Ron Paul one big fundraising and media push before Super Tuesday! https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate

Mitt Strikes Back
john,
The Republican nomination has come down to a two-man race between Governor Mitt Romney and Senator John McCain. Thanks to your unyielding support, and the support of millions of your fellow Romney supporters across the nation, we have the resources to go off to the races to the 21 states that hold their nominating contests on Tuesday, February 5th.
We would not be where we are today without your support – support which contributed to yesterday being the campaign’s best online contributions day yet! Please consider joining with conservatives across the country and consider pitching in one more contribution to put Governor Romney over the top in this two-man race – a race between Governor Romney, a Washington outsider, who will bring conservative change to Washington, and Senator McCain, a Washington establishment politician who will derail the conservative agenda.
To read more about how we can win on February 5th, please read the latest strategy memo from Alex Gage.
Thanks, and on to victory!

So Long, Rudy! [Rudy who?]
Dear john,
Thank you for sharing your concerns with me. Thank you for working with me to provide our children with a brighter and more prosperous future. Thank you for your support and trust and faith. And thank you for being a part of this wonderful journey. A New York Republican named Teddy Roosevelt once said “aggressive fighting for the right is the noblest sport the world affords.” Like most Americans, I love competition. I don't back down from a principled fight. But there must always be a larger purpose. Elections are about more than just a candidate. Elections are about fighting for a cause larger than ourselves. They are about identifying the great challenges of our time and proposing new solutions. Most of all, they are about handing our nation to the next generation better than it was handed to us. Although we were unsuccessful in our endeavor, the fight to strengthen America goes on. Our nation's next President must understand and make a commitment to keep us on offense in the Terrorists' War on Us. He must understand that stimulating our economy requires cutting taxes, because you make better decisions with your money than Washington bureaucrats. He must be committed to ending illegal immigration and securing our borders. And he must use free-market principles to make health care more affordable for all Americans. I believe John McCain is that man. He is the right leader to move us forward, unite our party and transform Washington. I hope that you will join me in supporting him to be the next President of the United States. As I look forward to the road ahead, I am optimistic because I believe America's best days are still to come. Our country has a bright future, but we must work together to ensure that our shared prosperity creates new and better opportunities for us all. Best Wishes,
Rudy Giuliani

Precinct Work - organizing people gets the vote.
January 30, 2008
We received this message this morning from a Ron Paul supporter in Florida. Because it is so important, we are sharing it with you, too.
I wanted to share my experience canvassing here in Broward County, South Florida.
As you know, Dr. Paul took 3% of the vote yesterday in Florida. A friend and I signed up on the campaign's website to be a precinct leader, and took it upon ourselves to canvass 13 precincts in Broward County. I'm proud to report that in the precincts that we canvassed, Dr. Paul came in second to John McCain.
That's right; Dr. Paul beat Romney, Giuliani and Huckabee. This happened with almost NO media coverage of Dr. Paul. It's particularly noteworthy, because Broward County is a stronghold of Rudy Giuliani.
We know of other Dr. Paul supporters in Broward County who were waving Dr. Paul's signs, but they did not do that well in their precincts. Sign waving does NOT get votes, BUT PRECINCT WORK DOES GET VOTES!!! Please do the precinct work in your area so that Dr. Paul will win. God Bless You.
Help us by signing up today to be a precinct leader in your area. If you really want to make Ron Paul our next president, sign up and begin canvassing right away. You're counting on Ron Paul to do his part, and he's counting on you to do yours.
This is work that any dedicated supporter can do, and, along with donating, is the most important thing you can do to ensure a Ron Paul victory.
Sign up yourself, and then encourage all your friends to sign up here: https://voters.ronpaul2008.com.

"You say you want a revolution?"
January 30, 2008
Dr. Paul has written to you that we are heading straight for Super Tuesday. Our opponents are free to beat up on each other and wear themselves down while we gather our supporters and prepare to storm the convention with delegates. Last night, over 60,000 people stood up and asked for an end to the runaway violation of our liberties. But contrary to the impression you may be getting from the mainstream media, no national delegates have yet been won in Florida. Those delegates will only be awarded between February 6 and April 30 at delegate selection caucuses, and many of those delegates will be supporters of Dr. Paul. Ron Paul is the only candidate not to give up on any state in the Republican race, and just as we competed strongly in overlooked states like Nevada and Louisiana, so too will we compete in Maine, Minnesota, and other states that the so-called "top-tier" candidates are content to ignore. Now, as the focus shifts to Super Tuesday, Rudy's campaign is crushed, Huckabee is losing momentum by the day, and McCain and Romney are fighting over who is the most liberal. We've been here before. In 1776, despite a courageous effort at holding onto the city, George Washington ceded New York and quickly retreated to New Jersey. 1777 brought the British recapture of Fort Ticonderoga, as well as American defeats at Brandywine and Germantown. And then, during the winter of 1777-1778, Washington and his army faced perhaps their most humiliating moment, forced to endure a harsh Pennsylvania winter with limited supplies at Valley Forge. The American revolutionaries dealt with their defeats, focused on their goals, and emerged from Valley Forge as a force that would defeat the most powerful nation on earth. Our momentum is building. Each one of us, from Dr. Paul himself down to the grassroots supporter who donates the last $5 he or she can give, is focused on the goal. Early in the struggle for American independence, George Washington wrote: "Perseverance and spirit have done wonders in all ages." Even then, Washington realized that a fierce struggle for self-government can only be won with a spirit of determination equal to the challenge. Today, in the midst of our new revolution, let's consider Washington's words once again. The task before us is enormous. The foes of liberty are deeply entrenched, and they will not relinquish their power without a struggle. But fighting in our favor is the unconquerable human spirit, the innate desire to be free. We must embrace this inner strength, dig in our heels, and persevere, just as Washington and his rag-tag colonials, the first American grassroots patriots, did before us. And if we must pass through a Valley Forge or two along the way to victory, let those times of testing temper the steel of our determination. If Ron Paul is to continue his fight for liberty to the Republican Convention, we need your help in two critical ways: 1. Become a precinct leader today: It's easy, but more importantly, it's vital to Ron Paul's success: https://voters.ronpaul2008.com. 2. Donate: Just as the Continental Congress supplied General Washington's troops in the field, we too must raise as much money as we can to equip our grassroots supporters. Help us win this revolution and usher in a new era of freedom, peace, and prosperity. Donate today: https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate.

McCain McMomentum?
John McCain's momentum is now unstoppable. The campaign is well positioned to come out of "Super Tuesday" the winner and the presumptive nominee for president. Tonight's victory shows that the American people want straight talk and leadership: they want John McCain. In recent days, both candidates and pundits have said that the winner of Florida will go on to win the nomination. We couldn’t agree more.
We have a lot of work ahead of us. Tomorrow night, John McCain will be in California to participate in the GOP Debate at the Reagan Library. Then he will be on the road on a non-stop campaign blitz leading up to Super Tuesday - February 5th. This is a huge challenge that will require the support of all of our supporters across the country.
Help keep the momentum going!
- Donate Now. Your donation to our "Super Tuesday" victory fund will be put to work immediately across the country.
- After you've made your donation, please send this letter to three of your friends or family members and ask them to join the McCain team.
Thank you for support and on to Super Tuesday!
The Entire McCain Team
P.S. Donate tonight and your donation will be put to work right away to win in the "Super Tuesday" states. We immediately have to expand into a nationwide campaign. By contributing online tonight, your donation will be put to use tomorrow. Don't forget to send this letter to three of your friends and tell them why you are supporting the next President of the United States, John McCain!

Over the past year, as I traveled around the country, people from all walks of life welcomed me into their homes and communities with open arms. From house parties to parades to town halls and rallies, I have shared in some wonderful moments with you all and for that I am eternally grateful.
